Comment left May 19, 2008: "Was most popular as a given name in the Thirties and early Forties when Marlene Dietrich sang 'Lili Marlene' and various other songs, and was also in the 1930 film 'The Blue Angel' directed by Josef von Sternberg who, I think, had discovered her in the Twenties. Comment left Apr 20, 2008: "I don't think I've really ever met someone with my name. The only Marlene's that i know of are my teachers parents or grandparens friends. Its mispronounced fairly often, spelled wrong more often than that.
The thing that i like the least is that there isn't really a good way to shorten it into a nickname. People have suggested Marley- but i do know a Marley my age and i didn't want to be confused with her (cause she wasn't very nice)." (Report as inappropriate)
