This particular spelling is Hawaiin in origin, and actually means myrtle. I like it better than the run of the mill Michaela's, which is really just a feminized version of Michael. I have had no problem with people no knowing how to say or spell her name. i have ran in to a few people with the name makala or have a child with this make. .
