The mother of the pop singer Madonna was born in 1932 as Mademoiselle Madonna Fortin, of French-Canadian extraction, and unfortunately she died young in 1963. She was the first wife of the Italian-American Silvio "Tony" Ciccone (who later remarried his housekeeper Joan Gunderson of perhaps Norwegian - if not Swedish or Danish - descent) and she was the mother of the more famous Madonna Louise Ciccone (better known simply as 'Madonna', 'Madge', or 'Mrs Guy Ritchie'), born in 1958."
