Comment left Aug 06, 2008: "My name is Mabel too, currently im 14. At the age of 5 or 6 I had said that I planned on changing my name, but just recently have I discovered the real beauty in the name Mabel. Just like the other Mabel's I think we always get our name spelled wrong. I mean it's only 5 letters who thought it would be so hard for other people? I often get "May-bel" or "Mable" too. During my earlier years I always got really upset when people spelled it wrong, but lately i've learned to just brush it off because of how long it's been happening. Just recently, i've been getting that adults love my name because they're grandmother was named Mabel or someone in their family. : ) Mabel is a wonderful name and has a great meaning. I would most def. consider maybe naming my daughter Mabel too if I have one." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jul 08, 2008: "Hi i have been mable for 16 years and hell yeh i love it! I am an english gypsy and mable has been in the fam 4 years. More people should name their kids mable instead of kelly and lyndsay come on it means loveable for goodness sake!ps jesus saves!" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jun 16, 2008: "My name is Mabel - - I had issues with this name from the beginning. At an earlier age, I wanted to change my name as I always felt that it didn't suit the way I see myself. However, it's growing on me now and just knowing that the true meaning "lovable" is there makes it easier for me. People often spell my name wrong and chant "Mabel Black Label" for the 1960's beer commercial. At times, I would like to be called "Ma - Belle" which means my beautiful in french - which sounds very elegant." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left May 17, 2008: "Has both positive associations (Tracey Ullman the British actress/comedienne named her daughter Mabel in 1986) and negative ones (think Wilfred Pickles' wife who was also his co-hostess in the 1950s radio show 'Have A Go', from where the phrase "On the table, Mabel" came)." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 13, 2008: "I adore the name Mabel, I like the simplicity of it and it makes me think of a wholesome pink-cheeked child. Perhaps this is because I don't know any old women with the name, but I'm a fan of old-fashioned names in general anyways." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left May 01, 2008: "They say "Mothers Always Bring Extra Love", which was how the little girl in the TV series Mad About You got the name Mabel - which otherwise still makes me think of old ladies with their cardigans and teapots, their hair-dos tied in a bun, and playing mahjong with pals of theirs called Myrtle, Edna, Gladys, Hilda, Dorothy, and Agnes." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Apr 24, 2008: "my name is mabel and i am 5. I think my name is exciting.often my invites to partys spell my name wrong -mable. my great aunty is called mabel too and i have a cup from her with m on it but my dad broke it by accident. granny is fixing it." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Apr 21, 2008: "April 25, 2007 Mabel Washburn had a bull in her garage that rammed her car. She was then 81 yrs old. It was in Hebron NY, maybe a Bible sign?" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Apr 19, 2008: "I had a great Aunt Mabel. It is nice, but yes, old fashioned. I like it better than some of these new names out there!" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Feb 05, 2008: "Where I am, this is still an "old lady" name (think Mildred or Phyllis). However, I suppose Mabel could make a comeback - British comedienne Tracey Ullman, after all, chose it for her daughter in 1986 and this Mabel, although so young, seems to now be coming of age." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Aug 29, 2007: "I love it since it was my grandmother's name. In England we shorten it to Mae or Mab. I prefer Mae." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Aug 07, 2007: "Although some older names are coming back into style, this one just doesn't have a good ring to it. While names such as Amelia are now liked, Mabel is still looked at as a negative sounding name for a frumpy and large old woman." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jul 29, 2007: "Just think that if this name does become popular again it may result in a grandchild called Carol or Janet or Susan and then a great-grandchild called Lisa or Michelle or Tracy. I still think this name is in the same category as Maude and Mildred, associated with frumpy old grandmothers with walking sticks." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jul 21, 2007: "I still think this is an old lady's name although it is not hideous like Bertha and Gertrude." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jul 10, 2007: "Me and my husband both had grandmothers named Mabel. So we named our little girl Megan Mabel. She's our little M&M; she was only 3 pounds at birth. I wouldn't have minded naming her Mabel, though. It's a unique name and I think it should come back in popularity." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jun 27, 2007: "My name is Mabel but everyone misspells it 'Mable' or 'Mabell' or sometimes even 'Maybul'. My name is confusing but I've loved it from the start. I have a son due and I'm naming him after my husband, Patrick. If I have a daughter she will be Patricia Belle, so she can have a little bit of both of us in her name." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jun 09, 2007: "my sisters name is mabel and she is an absolute blessing we love her to bits although this mabel talks a hell of a lot.bless her cotten socks" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left May 29, 2007: "My friend named her dog Mabel. But I nick named the dog Anabel! I love it!" (Report as inappropriate)
