User Comments about the name Lydia
Comment left Jul 16, 2009: "My name is Lydia and I am quite pleased with it. It's sensible and old-fashioned, and I like how it sounds. Not only that, it fits me well, and people say I look like one. However, there is some difficulty with negative connotations, I've never really seen a 'good' fictional character named Lydia, and spelling, which can range from 'Lidia' to 'Lidea' to all sorts of fun typos. People also seem to have a hard time comprehending it and mistake it for other names quite frequently." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Apr 29, 2009: "My name is Lydia and I've lived it for most of my life i get loads of complements. People saying that is a beautiful name. I was named after the lady Lydia in the Bible and her name means purple because see sold purple cloth. And ironically my favorite color is purple.LOL" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Mar 06, 2009: "My name is Lydia. I love my name and everyone complements on it but all the time I get "Linda" or "Olivia." It gets sorta annoying. People call me Lyd as a nickname. I was named after my great, great grandmother and my great great aunt. Overall I love my name so much! Its classic and feminine! Consider Lydia for your daughters name! Im sure she'll love it to even though i hated it when i was young but now its awesome and it fits me great!" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Mar 05, 2009: "This is my daughters name. We picked it because it's a strong old fashioned name.
Everyone calls her Liddy." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left May 22, 2008: "My sister's name is Lydia. I love this name. Although sometimes, for odd reasons, people think her name is Linda. Overall, she has no problems with people mispronouncing her name. I think the name Lydia is very feminine and sophisticated. I would definitly name my daughter Lydia (at least as a middle name just to minimize the confusion with my sister)." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left May 10, 2008: "My daughter's name is Lydia I have always loved the name she was named after my mother's cousin.. and then i saw the movie beetlejuice." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Mar 24, 2008: "I'm a Lydia Beatrice. Named after my great-grandmother, who wa named after her mother.
Becoming more popular now, but still dont meet many other Lydias, and when you do, you remember them, and it gives you a funny little feeling to share the name, like a special bond.
Not much rhymes with it- Chlamydia and En-cly-clo-pidia were the nearest anyone got, bt by the time kids knew those words, they had moved beyond the name calling stage.
Lydia is also a region of Turkey, where the use of coins in Europe is said to have started.
There's also a book called Love For Lydia, whic was made into a film. And there's Lydia Bennett from Pride and Prejudice.
Negative connotations- Lydia Lunch, a porn star.
People get it right most of the time with spelling and pronunciation. Sometimes get Lidia spelling and sometimes people pronounce it lie-dee-ah, when its lid-ee-ah.
Harder to find premade 'name' stuff, but ways round are to buy letter beads for necklaces separately, and its easy to get stuff custom personalised.
Can sometimes seem a little plain, but all in all, a good name." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Feb 03, 2008: "August 19 1997
I asked my dad how they got my name they said that they look on the computer so i did.I was so suprised how much peoples names were Lydia in 1880! But my parents did tell me that it was popular then. I have met someone named Lydia at a camp it felt weird to say Lydia because I never knew anybody named Lydia. I LOVE my name because it is unique and very special." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Oct 23, 2007: "I love my name, though there is a downside. I've met several people and probably will meet several more that assume my name is Linda, instead. I don't see why it's a hassle to spell it L-Y-D-I-A, but there you go." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Aug 27, 2007: "Our daughters name is Lydia and onlyme and my sister liked the name right away. We all love it now and her. We call her Lydi or Lyd, she is 4. I did not hear of many Lydia's when we lived in a bigger town and then we moved to a smaller town less than 10,000 and we heard of four other Lydia's within the first year. Sort of funny." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jun 10, 2007: "My name is Lydia and I am 15 years old. I love my name so much because Lydia was a women's name in the Bible. I don't know anybody personally whose name is Lydia. I like how it is original! Every now and then I will run into somebody who has the same name but it is very rare. I think Lydia is a very pretty name. (it's a fun one to write in cursive!:) My family has given me the nickname Lyd...I like that. Lots of people don't know how to spell my name but I'm cool with that. If you can't think of a name to give to your baby girl name her LYDIA!!! I am sure she will love it! I do!" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Mar 30, 2007: "My name is Lydia and everyone calls me Lia. But when people say my name they say it right but usually spell it Lidia" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jan 14, 2007: "I hated my name growing up but now I love it! I was named after my Great Grandmother and didn't know of anybody else with that name until my Senior year of Highschool when a new Fresman started with my name. I love that it's not very common, but still people know it. I do have to spell it though when I tell them my name, to many times has it been spelled Lidya or Lidia. Many times I get mail for Linda!!" (Report as inappropriate)
