I def don't think its old fashioned compared to popular names like sophie, eve etc. again its never pronounced correctly which annoys me ALL the time, but you get used to I guess!" I've not met many people bearin d name. Its a simple and beautiful name but people often misspell it and pronounce it wrongly as in Louis. I really love my name and i'll like my daughter 2 bear it cos its a name 4 beautiful, intelligent and compassionate women and she'll be all of these and more. So if ur name is Lois, dat means ur special so enjoy it." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Oct 10, 2008: "It's my name and I'm honored to have it. My name came from my Grandmother and if I can be 1/2 of the Lois she was then I'll really be awesome! :D" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Oct 03, 2008: "Lois, like many popular names, has Greek origins. Its meaning has been translated to 'desirable' or 'superior.' Lois wasn't picked up by parents until the late 16th century in England. In the 1800s, American parents showed somewhat of an interest in Lois, but not nearly as much as they would a century later. Between 1900 and 1950, Lois was big in name popularity. Lois roared into the twenties with flappers, jazz and culture; perhaps the soldiers returning from World War I were fond of the name or new inventions pushed people to try out different names or maybe disregard for old customs was the cause. Whatever the reason, Lois reached its peak in the 20s. By the 1950s Lois was slowly losing favor with parents and by the 90s, the name had become a rarity, an ancient artifact worn almost exclusively by mothers and grandmothers. Will there be a Lois revolution' Only time will tell." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Sep 07, 2008: "my names lois, and honestly i fail to understand how people can't pronounce it! its a simple four letter name. other than that, im pretty happy with my names, an since most of my friends are charlottes and jessicas, it gives me a little difference :)" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Sep 06, 2008: "I really like my name. My parents desired a short firt name to go with my long last name. They also wanted a name the could not be shortened. Over the years it has been shortened to Lo." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Sep 03, 2008: "My mother is Lois Anne, my Grandmother Lois Ellen, my great great Grandmother Lois Ellen too. Its a great name when used with a second short name. My wife is pregnant. If a girl it will be Lois Mary." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Aug 15, 2008: "Hmm.. Though it's hard to pronounce, but i still feel glad with Lois, which actually taken frm my family name: Loi (just add a "s") Majority of people around me just couldn't pronounce it n they either called me Louis or Lois Lane.. But it sound swwet when i met somebody who can pronounce it correctly. Thanks God that it's biblical unique, do hope that it'll get me a superman~ Cheers!!" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jul 17, 2008: "I have just called my 10 week old daughter Lois and her nick name already is Lolo. I love the name it suits her well. She seems a strong character already. Its unusual and so pretty, I'm sure she will be happy with her name. She is gorgeous!" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left May 26, 2008: "Though this name is most often associated with Lois Lane from the Superman comic strips, it's not a bad name. I don't think I'll ever name my daughter Lois, but if for once I come across a little girl of this name, at least her name wouldn't be Ursa as in that Kryptonian villainess who, while played by Sarah Douglas in the second Superman film of 1980 (Margot Kidder played Lois Lane), was jealous of Lois and Superman's (Christopher Reeve) relationship when Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman) introduced Ursa, General Zod (Terence Stamp), and Non (Jack O'Halloran) to Lois, and Ursa said to Lois something like "What an undemanding male this Superman must be" before Lois then said something like "Yeah, and you could use the tuck here and there yourself, sister". So I definitely won't be choosing either Ursa (not really a name, more like a constallation, as in Ursa Major and Ursa Minor) or Lois for my daughter, even though as I said earlier, a name like Lois, while at the present time somewhat unpopular, would fit a child better than the name of that Kryptonian villainess would ever (in a million years) do!" Comment left May 15, 2008: "My name is Lois, actually taken from Superman when my mum and dad were watching it once lol..kinda sad but hey! Id rather that than 'Tiffany'(80's popstar) which was the second choice. I've grown to love it just cos its kinda unique. The 'Lois Lane' jokes are lame, but im used to them now and the cheesy surperman chat up lines just make me giggle - nothing to be offended by. People dont shorten my name either, which I love." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 15, 2008: "My name is Lois and i love it I have only met one or two people with this name and thought it was very unique bu obviously not...i think its a great name and everyone i have met loves it." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Apr 29, 2008: "MY NAME IS LOIS AND I LOVE IT. MY FATHER GAVE IT TO ME BECAUSE HE FEELS I AM SPECIAL ESPECIALLY BORN ON A LEAP DAY. I AM REALLY SPECIAL." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Apr 29, 2008: "hey my name is also lois, many people ive met have a hard time pronoucing it such as "louis, louise and just recently low-ass" many also mispell it, its not a very popular name here in sydney, ive only ever met 2 other people with my same name but online and never in person. i once found out that a girl infront of me had the same name as we had to give our names for our orders, to not risk confusion i ended up using my middle name nicole instead of lois. i love my name and but i dont like it when guys ask me where my superman is or if they can be my superman. i find that pick up line quite lame LOL" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Mar 27, 2008: "Guess I'm not the only Lois named after an Uncle Louis. The only common mispronuciations I have noted is when folks of Italian or Spanish heritage call me Louisa; No problem as I think that is a beautiful name. In my childhood years I encountered so few girls sharing my name that I came to believe that I, "owned, " this name. At age 65 I have met a number of women named Lois, and on reflection I realzie that I am in good company : Lois, it would seem, is a name reserved for intelligent, compassionate women."
