But what drives round the bend is when people say it is and old granny name and when people always spell it wrong and pronounce it like Lewis. Overall, I happy with my full name Lois,Elizabeth,Adams as I think it is very fpretty and original. THE NAME LOIS ROCKS!!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Aug 21, 2009: "My grandmother named me Mary Lois, she lived to be 98yrs old and I miss her dearly. She was the only person who used both names. I was born in 1965 and also grew up the only Lois in my school, neighborhood, ect.. When I was younger I didn't like my name, but I was still glad my name wasn't something over used like Lisa. I'm an RN now and my patients always remember my name, which pleases me. We don't give out last names, so when someone sends a card of thanks or praise there's no mistake it's me :D I've read all the comments left here and I can see myself thru the years in most of the entries." Comment left Aug 10, 2009: "Born in 1955, I was given the name of Lois by my mother. I don't know why she gave me this name; it certainly wasn't a name of a family member or close friend. I am proud of my name though. I grew up being the only Lois in my neighborhood and school and many people were able to remember me because of its uniqueness. Whenever I watch a movie or tv show, I always look at the credits at the end. There are many Lois' involved in film and television. I happen to be one involved in the arts - dance (teaching for 34 years). Besides Lois Lane of Superman, other well know Lois' are leading characters in the television shows "Malcolm in the Middle" and "Family Guy." When I was young I got teased alot with the Lois Lane jokes, but in general, the name comes with a lot of respect. Although most Lois' enjoy humor, there's something about the name Lois that tells people you are straight-up and no nonsense." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Aug 08, 2009: "Lois, a strong name "superior" in origin and meaning. So what if some cannot pronounce it. I say; make them work for it, they will soon remember you for your original name. Lois is sophisticated on one hand and sultry on the other. We are the few, the proud, The "Lois's" of the world stand forth, I am proud to call you my sisters." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jul 23, 2009: "My name is Lois and I view it as an curse.I was the forth daughter and it seems my parents had run out of ideas for girls names. It can not be pronounced nor spelled correctly. A day doesn't go by when you have to spell and pronounce the name and it is still murdered. Parents do not give your child a name that is so odd not even gender is recognized. Four short letters and a lifetime of explaining. I have met other women named Lois and they have hated the name." Comment left Feb 20, 2009: "My beautiful 7 year old daughter is caled Lois Sophia. We toyed with the idea of calling her Sophia Lois but Lois won because Sophia/Sophie is so popular. She is the only Lois in her school and I really think it suits her, I love it, so feminine and pretty and ageless too, it suits her now and will suit her when she's an old lady. I do it so annoyed though, it's four letters but everyone spells it wrong or calls her Lewis which I think is really ignorant but hey ho." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Feb 13, 2009: "I'm called Lois and to be honest I like it :D but all I ever get called is 'Louis' or 'Lewis' I've even had my name pronounced french. Like Low-ah. If people do manage to say my name right it is almost always followed by 'Lane'. Yeah, Lois Lane - from Superman. That joke gets old after about 14 years! But really, it's a nice name and it can't really be shortened. Although a few people call me 'Lo (low)' which is kinda ironic - considering I'm tall. Despite few crappy jokes - Lois rocks :P" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jan 17, 2009: "I am forever being called Louis, Louise and Lous but i love my name, i live in scotland and have only met two other Lois' in my life. i think its a fab and individual name. Its a name that even though its not common you've still heard it mentioned and isn't classed as a 'new' or 'made up' name." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Dec 28, 2008: "Hi Lois' out there, this is another Lois with an awesome family name too. I love my name and like all the Lois' before me, have experienced bewilderment and annoyance that people get it so wrong. One of the most annoying is, on the phone, you say your name to them, then spell it, they relay it back to you Louis, pronounced Looeee!! I would never change it, its great!! One of my friends named her daughter, now 3, Lois, so its still alive and kicking" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Nov 16, 2008: "hey my name is lois but no-one pronounces it right i get called all sorts of junk when my name comes round on the register! one of my french teachers said my name wron so i corrected her and she went balistic!! but i love my name i think it really suits me,it makes me stand out cause its a odd name but i dont care i love it because it makes me have that bit of difference from anybody else." Comment left Nov 15, 2008: "my little girl is called lois, lolo for short too!! I love it because its different and when peopl ask her name they always comment on how nice it is and how she suits it. I def don't think its old fashioned compared to popular names like sophie, eve etc. again its never pronounced correctly which annoys me ALL the time, but you get used to I guess!" Comment left Nov 04, 2008: "My name is Lois and i LOVE it with passion especially now dat i jst got 2 knw dat it means "more desirable", "superior". It makes me feel special. I've not met many people bearin d name. Its a simple and beautiful name but people often misspell it and pronounce it wrongly as in Louis. I really love my name and i'll like my daughter 2 bear it cos its a name 4 beautiful, intelligent and compassionate women and she'll be all of these and more. So if ur name is Lois, dat means ur special so enjoy it." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Oct 10, 2008: "It's my name and I'm honored to have it. My name came from my Grandmother and if I can be 1/2 of the Lois she was then I'll really be awesome! :D" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Oct 03, 2008: "Lois, like many popular names, has Greek origins. Its meaning has been translated to 'desirable' or 'superior.'
Lois wasn't picked up by parents until the late 16th century in England. In the 1800s, American parents showed somewhat of an interest in Lois, but not nearly as much as they would a century later. Between 1900 and 1950, Lois was big in name popularity. Lois roared into the twenties with flappers, jazz and culture; perhaps the soldiers returning from World War I were fond of the name or new inventions pushed people to try out different names or maybe disregard for old customs was the cause. Whatever the reason, Lois reached its peak in the 20s. By the 1950s Lois was slowly losing favor with parents and by the 90s, the name had become a rarity, an ancient artifact worn almost exclusively by mothers and grandmothers. Will there be a Lois revolution' Only time will tell." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Sep 07, 2008: "my names lois, and honestly i fail to understand how people can't pronounce it! its a simple four letter name. other than that, im pretty happy with my names, an since most of my friends are charlottes and jessicas, it gives me a little difference :)" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Sep 06, 2008: "I really like my name. My parents desired a short firt name to go with my long last name. They also wanted a name the could not be shortened. Over the years it has been shortened to Lo." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Sep 03, 2008: "My mother is Lois Anne, my Grandmother Lois Ellen, my great great Grandmother Lois Ellen too. Its a great name when used with a second short name. My wife is pregnant. If a girl it will be Lois Mary." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Aug 15, 2008: "Hmm.. Though it's hard to pronounce, but i still feel glad with Lois, which actually taken frm my family name: Loi (just add a "s") Majority of people around me just couldn't pronounce it n they either called me Louis or Lois Lane..
