I used to HATE people calling me "Lis" (pronounced "lease") -- I would tell them, "I'm not a rental agreement, dammit!" I told friends that if they absolutely NEEDED to shorten an already-short name, they could call me "Li" (pronounced "Lee"). Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
