Of course I know how to spell my middle name!! Anyways, Lessie is also the name of my aunt and my father's grandmother. It is cool that the name carried this far I guess but it stops with me. Since most people knew her given name, pronunciation was not much of an issue. She had told me that she had also heard Lessie as a nickname for Celeste. I think it's a really pretty name!" I was born in 1963 and my mother named me after one of my uncles girlfriends, she just loved the name. I've met 3 Lessie's in my life and they were all very sweet, intelligent and great ladies! There were quite a few Lessies during the 1800s! Surprised me. I've grown up being the only one named that -- and everyone asking me if it is a nickname. (I say, it's like Jessie. That helps a lot. Otherwise people never "get" it and call me a number of strange things, including Leslie, until they start avoiding using my name! :) ) Recently, I met a lady named Lessie at the post office and one at the ROD. The lady at the post office (who is around my age) and I laugh about it -- because we never meet anyone with our name. She was named after a family member too. She would have been born in the 20's. I read somewhere on the web that Lessie was a nickname for Celeste.
