I didn't like my name as a kid because I couldn't find my name on pre-printed stuff like toothbrushes, pencils, keychains, etc. But as an adult I LOVE my name because it's unique. Every once in awhile when I do meet another Lena, I get mad like "that can't be your name cuz that's MY name!" I was named after my grandmother Elena but my parents wanted to keep the "L" names going, both brother and dad have "L" names. So they dropped the "E". I too pronounce it Lee-na" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Dec 21, 2008: "My name is Lena, and I'm 16 years old. I was named after my great-grandmother on my dad's side. At first, when I was younger, I hated my name because no one but older women ever had my name, but have grown to love it over the years BECAUSE of how unique it is. The only thing I hate is how often people mispronounce and misspell it. Usually, I'm called "Lay-nuh," but there are other times when I'm called "Lynn-uh" and "Lie-nuh"... One individual (not a very bright one at that) called me "Lisa". 9 times out of 10, people spell my name wrong- usually they spell it "Lina," and I find myself feeling like Anne of Green Gables quite often, writing an "E" in my name after removing the "I". You hardly ever - trust me, I know - see it on bicycle tags, or tee-shirts, or coffe mugs, and I've forgotten how many times people have called me "Leana", "Lana" or "Alena" (all spelled phonetically), but I think it's worth it. As a kid I hated it because I could never go to the store and buy pencils, keychains or toothbrushes with my name pre-printed on them. :( But now I LOVE it because when someone yells out Lena in a crowd I know that I'm the only one looking.
