Since I was young everyone said it was a African American name and not a suitable name for a Indian girl. In class, when teachers would role call for attendance, whenever they would come to my name they would stare at every other girl in the room but me, even if I would have my hand waving wildly. There were many points in my life when I absolutely hated my name because I didn't think it suited me, I mean I always thought it was a ghetto name, but now, as I am older, and much more mature, I really love it. I thank my mum for naming Kesha, although I am not so sure how she came up with the name since we were not living in the States when I was born. Just remember your name does not define you, you define your name. In Hindi, Kesha is the female name to Krishna, and it does mean long hair. Long hair, to me signifies beauty in a female, and my dads name is Krishna and I am blessed to be named after him (how many girls can say that!). KESHA IS NOT GHETTO. Kesha is a beautiful female, with exotic looks who not only is the essence of beauty but the essence of intelligence. She is unlike anything anyone has ever met." I will say that it's spelled plain and simple and they'll add "ee", or "i" I mean it's spelled as it sounds, and they can always read it right, but no one can spell it right off the dome. My aunt used to spell it "Lekesha" and I've lived with her since I was born. I love my name, and I'll never change it. Like my friends said, "Whether we call you by your favorite nickname, Kesha or by Lakesha, you'll always be unique, just like your name." And I think Kesha, and Lakesha are actually names that sound classy...my brother's name is Keshawn, and we wonder why our names were connected like this, but he's my only brother, and just like my name and myself, I am the only "L" in my family of siblings. The others are "K" I thank my mother for my name, and in her memory and because of my pride, I won't change it...everyone with the name Kesha,Lakesha or anything containing Kesha... represent!

I'm from NZ and am the only person there I've ever met with my name, people often get in confused with the NZ actress Keisha Castle Hughes.
My mum also got it from Keshia from the Bill Cosby show, she thought she invented it by changing it to kesha but obviously not!
