User Comments about the name Kecia

Comment left Aug 26, 2008: "My name is Kecia as well. Born in 1965. I am black but yesterday met a caucasian woman whose name is Kishia (pronounced Key-sha too). I was excited and asked her questions about the origin so I decided to seek some answers myself. My mother told me she named me after a model, but couldn't remember where she was from! Thank you all for the comments and I LOVE MY NAME AND IT'S SPELLING!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Aug 25, 2008: "My name is Kecia and I was born in 1964 in NYC. Both of my parents were Musicians that travelled the world and Kecia Niemann was a personal friend of theirs. According to my mother when she first met Kecia she told her how much she loved her name and that she would name her first daughter after her and so here I am. Now 44 years later I'm finding that their are a lot of "KECIA" not all those wanna be's with the same name correctly spelled too. The only thing that makes me angry is the fact that people associate the name with one ethnicity and that they are telling people that the origin of the name is African. Nope sorry Wrongo it is swedish it translates into "sunrise/sunset" not an African queen (Africa and Sweden are a long distance apart) just thoght I'd clear the record. KECIA" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left May 18, 2008: "My name is Kecia, pronounced keesha, and I was born in 1967. My parents saw the Swedish model named Kecia on a talk show...either Merv Griffin or Mike Douglas. My dad's co-workers gave him a hard time after I was born, because while my parents had no idea, apparently the model was in Playboy also! I've always loved having an unusual name, even though people do often spell and pronounce it wrong. I actually felt insulted when someone argued with me that it's not unusual. I meet more people with this name, but spelled differently, than I used to, most of them African American. (I'm white.) And I too have had Japanese college students sing the Shupo shupo song! I can sing it with them now! My favorite "meaning" is the connection to acacia wood, a special wood in the Old Testament, and of course Job's daughter Keziah." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 15, 2008: "My name is Kecia. I was born in Hattiesburg, MS in 1963. My mother found the name in a hardback Glamour book. A model was named Kecia. Yes, people often pronounce it Kee-si-a. It is said Kee-sha. Most people don't spell it this way." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Apr 15, 2008: "My name is Kecia and I was born in 1966. My mom told me she named me after a Swedish Cover Girl model she saw on TV. I never knew there were so many other Kecia's who spelled their name this way! Very cool!" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Apr 02, 2008: "It's pronounce KAY-SHA!" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Mar 31, 2008: "i am called Kecia also, I was born in 1965 and i was also named after the scandinavian model (my father says she was Danish and she advertised Palmolive on TV, and the voiceover said 'She's big, she's beautiful, she's Kecia' and it wrote the words on the screen at teh same time, so they knew how to spell it. I have been told by a Kosovar friend that it means rain in Serbian, but I think it comes from the Bible. Keziah was one of Job's daughters, and Keziah and her sister Keren Heppuch so impressed their father that he left them in his will 'along with his sons'. I've also been told that Kecia means 'stupid, or not good at games' in Sudanese Arabic. You can't win them all... there is a pop star here in Britain called Kisha Buchanan and I'm worried that every man and his dog will call their daughters Kecia, but it still seems to be quite rare. I think I've only ever met one other Kecia face to face and she spelled it Kisha. That was in california." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Mar 26, 2008: "My name is Kecia. I'm a Canadian girl, born in 1972. My mother named me after a model named Kecia Niemann. Apparently, in addition to modelling in fashion magazines, KN also appeared on Kotex boxes back in the day (Mom put the cardboard cut-out of her face in my baby book!) I have heard a variety of meanings behind the name. Lots of Hungarian people have told me it means "rain" (that spelling in particular) and so I've heard that explanation often enough to believe them. But: A Russian boy told me it means "kitten." A Finnish woman told me it means "peach" in her language. When I visited Japan, people laughed at hearing my name, because there is a popular children's song about a train: "Kee-sha, kee-sha, shuppa, shuppa, shuppa, shuppa, shup-po-po!" I guess Kecia means train in Japanese! My roommate's Italian mother never called me by name for years, until she revealed that in Sicilian slang, Kecia means "B*tch." "Keziah" is also a biblical name, from the same root as "cassia," which is affiliated with the scientific name for cinnamon. I was introduced to a young African-American woman a few years ago who was deeply offended by my name. "That's a BLACK name!" she said, as though my mother had misappropriated it. Yup, I wish people knew how to properly pronounce and spell it. But overall, I adore my name. It's unique, and feminine, and pretty, and I'm very lucky to have it! If you are able to confirm any of the meanings people have suggested to me, I'd be delighted to hear about it." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Mar 22, 2008: "My name is Kecia (pronounced Key-sha), and the only thing I hate is when people don't know how to say it! They pronounce it Cu-see-a or Kay-see-a. It just don't give off the "sh" sound. I am 23 years old, Caucasian, born in 1984. My mom named me after the granddaughter or a lady she worked with at the time.." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Mar 15, 2008: "Dude, my name is SaKecia.. but i go by Kecia. I HATE IT!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Feb 16, 2008: "My name is Kecia, I'm 42 yrs old, and I have always loved my name, because it is unique. I have met a few people with my name, but not spelled the same, their spelling is always Keisha." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jan 28, 2008: "My name is Keasha Leandra. I was born in 1954. I was told the name was russian or slavik and the ture spelling was Kecia. I did not know about the model. In the late 70's a girlfriend named her daughter after me LeKeasha." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jan 26, 2008: "My name is Kecia. I am 36 years old. My dad heard the name while he was stationed with the Air force in the 50's and saved it for me. My Dad told me that Kecia was a famous Scandinavian Cover girl. It is very rare for someone to pronounce my name correctly, and I have always felt it was special. I see the name Kecia popping up more and more online. Back when I first starting checking there were just me and a few others that came up in google." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jan 23, 2008: "My name is Keisha.I have always wondered if it had an actual meaning, or if it was just made up. I am 28 years old, and people have always thought that my name was interesting. I once had an assignment in school, to do a report on the meaning of my name. At the time, I did not believe that it meant anything. If anyone knows what this name means, and where it originated, please share!" (Report as inappropriate)

I met maybe 2 K-E-C-I-A's and talked to one on the phone. I saw 2 on court TV and when I searched the name on myspace.com I saw pages of Kecia's (different races). I love my name and always have!" Most of the time when I'm introduced to someone who has heard about me they are shocked to find out that I am not African American! My parents named me after a caucasian woman and were as surprised as me to learn that it is predominantly an African name!" (Report as inappropriate)
