User Comments about the name Kaya
Comment left Oct 31, 2009: "My name is Kia, but it's pronounced with a long "i", like "k-eye-uh". My parents got it from the movie Willow, haha. Other than mispronunciation (mistaken for the car, obviously), I love my name." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Oct 29, 2009: "I got a mate called kaya but it is pronounced and spelt as kaea" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Oct 25, 2009: "my little sister is named Kiya, (we changed the spelling from kaya) and we're native american descent, and the name kaya is a native name meaning 'wise child'." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Aug 13, 2009: "my name is kaiya, pronounced the same way as kaya. i correct people all the time! and people are always telling me that its really unique and really pretty. Im seventeen and i have only met one person with the same name.
kaiya is japaneese and means forgiveness,it also means life and living in english" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jul 15, 2009: "I have a sister named Claudia and growing up we called her Kaya for short. It has stuck with her since then. I think it would have been spelled Caya but better pronounced if spelled Kaya and she likes the difference that it is spelled with the K. I heard the Bob Marley song and had to show it to her." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left May 07, 2009: "My daughter's name is spelled Khaya. We added the "h" because my older son's name is Khayri. If he were a girl, I'm sure his named would've been Kaya. Their dad insisted that we spell it as the Bob Marley song (which I had never heard at the time), but I thought it was silly not to uniformly spell their names. Adding the 'h' sort of changes the meaning to "African Mahoghany Tree"...trees, enlightenment...hmmm" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left May 01, 2009: "Kaya is the name of my dog. She is an American Staffordshire Pit Bull. She is so loving and gentle and has been a wonderful pet. She loves when I play the Bob Marley song Kaya and dances very happily when I sing it. She is also well liked "in her neighborhood" and receives gifts at Christmas time from our neighbors. Kaya is a great name. For a woman, young girl, or dog. By the way I bought her from a man named Kiah ironically." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Apr 29, 2009: "I like the name Kaya... It's really common in my country though." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Mar 30, 2009: "My name is Kaya, im 16 and i love my name. I have met one other person in my life with the same name, and i know of the actress Kaya Scodelario. My mother got the name from the Bob Marely alubm & song. She wasnt 100% sure it was slang for weed, she liked to think of the meaning more as 'a good feeling'. Not too long ago she met someone who told her it was infact slang for weed, but she didnt name me for that intention. It does often get mispronounced or misspelt but it doesnt bother me. Its diverse, i like all the different meanings and i when i found out that it was slang for weed, i found it hilarious lol." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Mar 09, 2009: "I wish I was named Kaya. It is so beautiful. I actually first heard it on actress Kaya Scodelario, and have loved it since then. Although I like my name, Cara, I would prefer Kaya." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Feb 20, 2009: "My name is Kaya. I hated it growing up (I am 27) because people ALWAYS pronounce and spell it wrong. I was Kayla, Kay-a, Kyra, Kyla (where people get these extra letters....). Now I really like it. I don't have to worry about working somewhere or having five friends with the same name - you just get used to correcting people and having them say, "oh, how pretty"" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Feb 09, 2009: "we are expecting our first child in june 09 and yes we are naming her kaya after the album, if we was having a boy them marley was the name. i have chose this because the man has been very massive influence in my life, and no i dont smoke weed." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Feb 01, 2009: "my daughter is 12 years old and is called kaya but we spell it kiah. didn't know it was slang for weed or that it was a bob marley song.even though my dad is a big bob marley fan." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jan 30, 2009: "I wanted to name our 2nd daughter Kaya. My brother in law didn't like it because of some character in the movie "Willow." And the grandparents were all about the stodgy names. Anyway, my wife wanted Lorelei and a few coincidences led to her winning that argument. Our 3-month-old girl is named Lorelei Kaya. I was aware of the many meanings, and I am a fan of Bob Marley, but I'd never name a kid just after a song/album. I just think it's a beautiful sounding name. You guys are a bunch of weird metaphysical hippies for the most part." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jan 10, 2009: "I am 25 wks pregnant with my 2nd child (first baby girl though!) and we are naming her Shakaya Destiny... but we already call her "Kaya" for short, and that will probably be what she goes by... :D
Yes, got it from Bob Marley too (kaya) but added the Sha at the beginning was my own unique thought... wanted to have a name no one else had!!! ;)
you all have wonderful taste!! ;)
<3 Kaya's Mommy" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jan 06, 2009: "I named by daughter Kaya Leigh in 2005, I didn't even know that it was a Marley song. I actually say the spelling for it in a Rap video and I thought that it was unique. I had never heard of it before and like stated above, there are many different meanings in many different languages. Not many people who see the spelling of her name pronouce it properly she usually gets "kayla" or "ka ya"" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Dec 23, 2008: ""Kaya" means enlightenment in the Rastafari dialect. Which is what Bob Marley spoke." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Nov 19, 2008: "My sisters name is Kaya, but I hope everyonen knows it is slang for weed" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Oct 22, 2008: "I have loved the album kaya since high school. We swiped it from my friends dads (major hippy) record collection on 4-20 when i was 16. It was my intro to bob. Now i have a dog named kaya. A blue pit I adopted. Her name was chloe (4 months old) that was too preppy and just would not do. Plus i love my mary jane." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Aug 31, 2008: "I love this name! Im having my first child in January 09 and have been a Bob Marley fan since the moment I heard him for the first time, Kaya is the perfect name (if I have girl!) :) Its perfect because my parnter was named for an ACDC album so it runs in the family! I thought it was quite a unusual name, but I guess not :)
Its still wonderful though." (Report as inappropriate)
