Im having my first child in January 09 and have been a Bob Marley fan since the moment I heard him for the first time, Kaya is the perfect name (if I have girl!) :) Its perfect because my parnter was named for an ACDC album so it runs in the family! I thought it was quite a unusual name, but I guess not :)

We as parents get excited because I think it tells us of a new generation of children whose parents were thinking the same thing. We liked the fact that the name means something in so many languages. It was spelled Kaja when I was born, but my mom changed it so I wouldn't have to deal with everyone pronouncing the 'j' the way it's pronounced in English. People who see it in print tend to assume a letter is missing and call me Kayla, or they mispronounce it as kay-ah. Kya is the most common misspelling I get, or Kia.
My mom got in from the song Kaya by Bob Marley. My name is supposed to be pronounced as it is in the song, but I prefer kai-ah; it's not quite as harsh-sounded. And no, I was not named FOR the song, thank you very much. My parents just liked the sound of the name.
I like my name, although I wish that it had been spelled Kaia.
I just wish my friends hadn't figured out that "zomg ur name means weed! lolz were ur parents stonerz?????//" ("Yes, I know what it means, and no, they weren't and aren't, thanks.")
