User Comments about the name Karin
Comment left Feb 25, 2009: "in 1967 my parents disagreed about what my name should be. My mother wanted to name me Dierdre, my father did not want a child who could be nicknamed 'Deedee'. My father said "We need a nice *normal* name, how about Karen". My mother said 'oh, ok' and promptly changed the spelling to Karin. In Kindergarten my teacher told me I spelled my name wrong, I had to get my mother to write a note explaining that it was *she* who spelled it wrong, not I. :-)
I kind of like it now--my name is probably what created the best friendship of my childhood, with a girl named Karen." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Mar 19, 2007: "I have always liked my name. Here in Sweden it has always been popular. Itýs a connection to my home and at the same time not to strange to people from other countries." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Mar 09, 2007: "Karin is a very popular name in Germany, just like Karen is very common in England. Too common for my liking! It (Karin) sounds somehow too 'masculine' for a woman." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Apr 17, 2006: "It is a more unusual version of Karen so that is nice. People pronounce it quite differently. I didn't meet someone with my name until I was 20 actually!" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Mar 03, 2006: "I see this name (my name) with the "i" spelling from time to time, in credits and professionally, and it seems to be all among people of my age bracket or older - I'm in my 30s. Yet when I meet people unfamiliar with this spelling they somehow can't believe it. Were my parents being snooty? Did they make it up? Are we from Sweden? How silly - it's just a northern Europoean variant of a VERY common name. Karin is VERY common as well in other parts of the world. Not saying I like having a common name, but it's slightly more interesting than Karen and it shows a connection to my German and Dutch ancestry (insetad of being so blandly "American")! Now that I have preschoolers, I haven't seen ANY Karens/Karins in school. I like it, and thankfully I don't have to compete with any Karen/Karin friends. They're all named Jennifer!"
