Teachers who have known me all year still call me Cara and don't even realize it when they read my name off of a list. I'm used to both by now, even though the latter still makes me think twice. I also got the nickname Karebear a lot, but I was also called "Kari" for a long time as a nick-name. Apparently my parents heard the name from an Italian character in the mini-series Brideshead Revisited.
