User Comments about the name Kaiya

Comment left Sep 04, 2010: "My daughter "Kaiya" was born August 12, 2009. I wanted something different but couldn't find a girl name I really loved. Before deciding on "Kaiya" she was going to be named "Payton" because everyone else liked it. A few days before I was due my grandma was watching the news. Micheal Jackson had just passed so he was the big story still. His cook was named "Kaia". My grandma said she liked the name, so I was like I kinda like it too. It seemed unusual but not too out there. I have since found it is more popular than I had imagined. Some people pronouche it Kay-uh, or ask how do you say it. Then others who are familar with the "AI" sound pronouce it just fine. It is hit or miss with people. You just have to be patient with people and spell the name often. I really decided on this name because I looked up the name "KYA" also prounuced like "Kaiya" and it meant "diamond in the sky". This sold me on the name. The spelling I came up with it after someone told me about the movie "Willow". Actually in the credits though they spell "KAIYA" with "I" before "A" (KIAYA). However, I didn't want people to pronounce her name like the car "KIA". After futher research of the hawaiian spelling of "KY" being "KAI" I decided this was the best spelling (KAIYA). I don't know if my daughter will like the name we shall see. I love it though!! Her nick name is just "KAI" for short but I call her both. Oh yeah her middle name is "Nicole" (After her aunt). I love the way it flows "Kaiya Nicole". Sometimes I call her that too just for fun. :)" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Aug 01, 2010: "I named my daughter "Kaiya" in the early 1980's before willow --after a good friend who was named "Kiaya" who was born in 1969--- interesting the chart does not show any children of this name in the early 80's-- it was uncommon but it was in use b/4 Willow came in to being.... ummmm where do you think the writer of Willow got it! Kai means "water"(without which we cannot live- giver of life) in Hawaiian .... the Gaelic meaning is similar "breathe of life"--- this is a unique name and if you use it you will have to spell it for people but your child will not be confused with a million Abby's Jennifer's or Tiffany's...." Comment left Jul 01, 2010: "Our Kaiya is due this month and I love what people have written about the name. We love it! I actually liked the spelling KAYA since I am a Bob Marley fan, but was overruled by my wife. Nonetheless I love the name because it is unique but not too unique and has a great meaning." Comment left Jun 10, 2010: "my name is Kaiya and i was named after Willow's wife as well. i've always had trouble with my name - teachers and strangers constantly mispronouncing it and misspelling it (i've gotten to the point where i give my middle name, Amelia, for restaurant lists). when i was young i hated it because of the trouble it gave me, but now i see the beauty in it and how unique it makes me. i love the spelling and wouldn't change my name for the world." • Comment left May 26, 2010: "We named our daughter "kaiyas"...a little different than Kaiya...but closest to it that we can find. I love the name. I went to school with a girl named kiyas and have always loved the sound of it. It is unusual without being to "out there"." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 14, 2010: "I also named my daughter Kaiya after the movie Willow. It is a beautiful name and everyone loves her name. The names also fits my daughter as I cannot imagine her with any other name." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Apr 25, 2010: "we named our daugher Kaiya. I have always loved the name and when I met my husband I told him that if I ever have a daughter I would give her this name. Well what do you know, she was born on Jan 20, 2009. My husbands name is Kaiser so we thought it would be awesome to name her Kaiya Rylea (said Riley). Her first name has part of her daddys name and her middle name has part of my middle name of Lea. LOVE THE NAME!!!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Mar 28, 2010: "Kaiya is my daughter's name. She was born March 07. I guess I got the name from the movie Willow. But when I looked up the meanings, I loved it even more. I went with the spelling that translated 'Forgiveness'. It is always mispronounced. But I think people will get more use to it with time." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Feb 15, 2010: "My baby girl was born January 31st 2010 and her name is Kaiya Evelyn. Her father and I are huge music fanatics and got the name from the Bob Marley album "Kaya". The name is rastafarian for enlightenment! :)" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Feb 10, 2010: "This is my 15 month old daughters name. I fell in love with it years before I had her. It is unique without being completely out there. It gets mispronounced alot, but it fits her perfectly!!!" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jan 22, 2010: "My husband and I had a beautiful baby girl on Father's Day in 2009 and we named her Kaiya Elizabeth. We actually thought that we had made up the spelling and were being original but now I see that many others share her name. We have yet to come across another Kaiya and when we tell people her name everyone comments about how much they love it. We have had people misspell and mispronounce, but it doesn't bother us." • Comment left Jan 14, 2010: "I don't have any kids yet but I want a baby girl and if I'm blessed with one I will definitely name her Kaiya. I think its a beautiful name!!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jan 10, 2010: "My name is Kiaya. Like Ky-uh. My parents derived it from Gaelic origins. It basically means crashing waters. Kaya is my Cherokee name, it means my elder sister. Almost 100% of people mispronounce my name. It gets annoying, but I love my Irish and Cherokee origins." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Nov 22, 2009: "I have a daughter born May 2006 and her name is Kaiya, pronounced the same way...I had a hard time finding a name when I found out I was having a girl...I saw Kai...and thought I was being different by adding a "y & a" to the end and then pronouncing it a lil' different ...I didn't know that there was so many Kaiya's...I wanted something unique, and it's ALWAYS pronounced wrong and/or spelled wrong...but, it's ok mine is too...Shena in N.H. ---pronounced Sh-en-a. not Sheena" (Report as inappropriate)
