Comment left Jun 28, 2008: "We are Japanese. We named our daughter kaia Iwanami when she was born in Apr 26,2007.
We've never heard of the name "Kaia" before yesterday in Japan. We loves the Ocean! Kai means the Ocean in Hawaiian and add an "a" to make it feminine. Our last name Iwanami means that "Iwa" is Rock and "Nami" is Wave.
What is the beautiful name of all of the Ocean!!" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jun 24, 2008: "I am 35 weeks pregnant with a little girl whose name will be Kaia LeAnne...my husband chose it, but I love it! I haven't had anyone mispronounce it (unless i say both names, they think I said Kiley Anne!), but so far people are having a hard time spelling it! I've had lots of friends and family call me and say "spell your baby's name again???" =)" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jun 23, 2008: "My name is Nancy Kaia. I was born in 1957 and was named after my grandmother who was from Norway. She was born in the late 1800's Her name, Kaia (my mother said it could be spelled Kaja like fjord for fiord)was Anglicized to Cary. My mother said Kaia was a Norwegian form for Karen or Katherine. I have always used my middle name and have loved its sound (rhymes with "Hi Ya") People spell it Kia and then pronounce it like the car. I smile and tell them I'm not a car. I named one of my daughters Kaia and my best friend from high school named her daughter after me as well. Its a lovely name. I once met a man on an airplane who had the same name but spelled it differently. He was Turkish. And he was shocked to hear my husband call me by "his" name. My mother said the Norwegian masculine form is Kai. Of course most people think it is Hawaiian. It means "grandmother" in the Suquamish Indian language. Bob Marley refers to Kaya as marijuana and I know of a couple who named their daughter that. Few people know that song and don't make that connection. I think the Greek roots of the name for Earth is very apropos for me." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jun 21, 2008: "We named our first daughter Kaia Siena on May 28, 2002. At the time, we thought we were being original. We liked that Kai meant ocean in Hawaiian and decided to add an "a" to make it feminine. The name fits our daughter perfectly and we love it -- our only regret is the constant mispronunciation! (I am happy to see that we did not choose a terribly unusual way of spelling her name). Rock on Kaias of the world!" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jun 21, 2008: "My granddaughter's name is Kaia Rain. I had never heard of this name before. She is now 6 years old. I think it means beautiful as she is beautiful. Bob Marley has a song about Kaya and Kaia's mother like it and changed the spelling." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jun 20, 2008: "I named my daughter Kaia Mercedes almost nine years ago! I absolutely LOVE the name, some people pronounce it wrong, but she's quick to correct them! I had never heard it before, but I've met quite a few little kids (boys and girls)with the name since. The meaning I found was "Divine" her middle name means "Gift". She is exactly that!" Comment left Jun 19, 2008: "My name is Kaia and I have met a few other Kaias, but most of them spell their name differently. Many people pronounce my name wrong; they either pronounce it kay-a or kia(like the car). I used to hate my name because everyone said it wrong, but now I love my name and I am proud of it." Comment left Jun 03, 2008: "I am a Kaia (ky-ya) is that how other people pronounce it? I love my name. I am Greek so my name means Earth. No one ever says it right though!" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jun 02, 2008: "Don't know anyone else with my name...particularly never heard of anyone older than me with it! I'd like to lay claim to being the oldest Kaia I know at the grand ages of 22!" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jun 01, 2008: "We named our daughter Kaia and had never heard it before. We added the A onto Kai, as we thought we were going to have a second son and wanted another K name. Once we named her that, of course, we found out that Cindy Crawford had named her daughter the same name with the same spelling and since then, we've met other Kaias. That just makes us love it more." (Report as inappropriate)
