  • Comment left Sep 23, 2009: "My name is Ila, by religion I am Hindu and my name is an ancient Sanskrit name literally meaning Earth. Ila is also the name of the Hindu goddess of sacred speech and is recognised as the daughter of Manu (in Hindu traditions, Manu is a title accorded to the first man), having arisen from a sacrifice which Manu performed for the purpose of obtaining off-spring. In Hindi it is pronounced Ee-la but does sometimes get mispronounced as Eye-la. Iım often told I have a beautiful name so Iım quite proud of it!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Sep 08, 2009: "We have called our daughter 'Ila'. I am Hindu and it is an Indian name, and my dh is French catholic and it is also an old French name, so it fit perfectly. And besides, I love it. In Hindi it is pronounced 'Ee-la'. She often gets it mispronounced as 'eye-la' though." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Aug 06, 2009: "I am thinking of naming our baby Ila - if its a girl - but I like it pronounced I-la (eye-la. Do you all pronounce it Il-a??" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jun 26, 2009: "Hi from England- where it rains - a lot. Everyone tries to spell it with an S which is apparently scottish (Isla)- weird right?! I like the name but sometimes people give me funny looks when i say it. But in the end they say something like 'very nice' which is lame but still reasuring. I get called I a lot or I-lah-lah then there's hi-lah like someone said before...scroll down... My mum was in india when i was born and its a hindu name so it figures. Overall its weird and wacky so i like it! xxx" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jun 08, 2009: "My name is Ila Virginia...from the South. I was named after my grandmother and I was the only Ila I knew growing up except for her. Now, I hear it all the time. Amazing! I guess like fashion, names make their way back. I actually go by Ginger...go figure. Yes, everyone pronounces it wrong the first time (Ila, that is.). I know that when I hear eel-ah or ill-ah that it is me and I don't even correct them." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 24, 2009: "My name is Ila and I love it, when someone calls your name,(if they say it right)you know they are calling you and not Sue or Lisa or such....I have met a few other women much older than myself with my name, but noone younger, I am in my 40's. It's nice to have a unique name :)" (Report as inappropriate)

My Grandmother's sister was named Ila-May. I love my middle name! It really is a very unique and beautiful name!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Dec 15, 2008: "Ila is also Hindi. I am adopted from India and that is my birthname." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Oct 19, 2008: "My name is Ila Ruth. From the south where people use 1st and middle name. I love my name as my last name is 'Devine" Ila Ruth Devine; has a swing to it. I always have used my double name and proud of it and want to be called by first two names. I was named after an Aunt Ila and an Aunt Ruth as people in that part of the country in 1920 to 1940 and maybe now feel you should name your children after someone you know." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Aug 04, 2008: "wow And I thought I made that name up. I am 9 months pregnant and we are planning to name our 2nd daughter Ila. My mothers name is Ida and I wanted a way to name my daughter after my mother without giving her the exact same name. I love this name especially because it is rare and it has a beautiful sound to it. Her name will always sound soft and sweet even if she becomes my little terror." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jul 29, 2008: "I luv my name ila , and now i have got use to people pronouncing it wrong, most of them say eye-laa , sometimes i do clarify them that like independent is not eyen-dependent and so is not my name eye-laa. My grandfather gave me this name, and it means wife of Adam...the first female on earth, the nourisher ,the giver ." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jul 09, 2008: "We named our daughter Ila after an old family friend. It gets mispronounced all the time. Mostly we hear Ida or Lila. It seems to be more popular than it was when I was a girl. We've never personally met any other little girls with the name, but we hear about many." (Report as inappropriate)
