Comment left Sep 28, 2009: "I don't like it. It's my name too. It always amazes how many people cannot figure out how to say it. It is only 3 letters. How can you go wrong?" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jul 15, 2009: "My name is Ida and I just love it. It's very multicultural name, in addition to english speaking countries, it's for example also commonly known name in Nordic countries, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 02, 2009: "There is this seriously pretty girl at my school named Ida.... wish she was my friend haha, shes nice too." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Oct 17, 2008: "It's me again. I just forgot to write "Thumbs Up" for Idaaaa =D!" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Aug 06, 2008: "My name is Ida, named after my grandmother who was also named Ida. I'm in my 30s, so growing up it was a very unusual name. Yes, was called Idaho a lot, or Ore-Ida (and various potato nicknames as derivations therefrom.) A bit annoying but not too terrible in retrospect. I live in the states, and grew up pronouncing it "Ey-da," but have since traveled quite a bit and been called "ee-da" enough that I answer to that as well. I've been told that it's a German-Russian-Scandanavian-Indonesia-Malaysian-etc. name. I think it's common because it's so easy to put those two sounds together; in fact, one of my nephews first words was 'Ida' but it wasn't me - it was his curse word! He would drop a toy, make a face, and say "Ay-Da, Ay-Da." That always made me laugh. These days the most common remark I get is "Ida - that was my grandmothers name." To which I always reply "Mine too!"" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jul 09, 2008: "My name is Ida, and in Albania where I live it is spelled as EDA , so I like "E" is spelled. I like it is short is not very common (the thing I like most, becouse I hate common names) and really gives to me a feeling of strength." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jun 26, 2008: "I am the youngest of 3 children. My dad told me that when I was born, I wasn't crying...I was literally born with a smile. How cool is that!! Hehe. I love my name, it originated from my dad's mother, Alida. And apparently she was very compassionate and loving...so I'm trying to live up to that. Facing each new day with a smile and leaving the worries of yesterday where they're suppose to be...behind you. Smile at strangers walking by you...it's amazing how they react and smile back at you (very rewarding). I've heard all kinds of pronunciations and I don't really mind it. I know who I am, so that is okay with me. As long as they spell it correctly. :-D" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left May 01, 2008: "Still rather uncool and old ladyish in English-speaking cultures and pronounced 'eye-da' - whereas it is now popular in Germany and Scandinavia in the pronounciation 'ee-da'. In Spain, this is a feminine word ('ido' in the masculine) which means "gone" or "departed"." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Feb 15, 2008: "My best friend is named IDA, in Switzerland, her home country it is pronounced EE-DAH. The meanings of the name (diligent, industrious, happy), fit her exactly. I have noted thoughout my life that the Ida's I have met have always had very strong, confident personalities." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jan 15, 2008: "in my country we pronounce it EE-dah. in my life i'v emet only one other person with this name" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Dec 29, 2007: "i think curston is a cool name or ava i like em both" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Mar 22, 2007: "Name Ida or Iida is quite commonly used in Finland as well as in other Scandinavian countries. My sister's name is Iida and it used to have an old-fashioned sound but in my opinion it has already disappeared. Beautiful name" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Mar 12, 2007: "I named my daughter Ida. I like that it is unusual, but also very recognizable, and I like that it has an old-fashioned feeling." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jan 29, 2007: "My great grandmother's sister's name was Ida. My mothers side of the family is of scandinavian lineage. Ida was a common name given in Norway, Sweden and less commonly in the other scandinavian countries. American immigrants from the nordic countries in the mid19th and late 19th century names their daughters Ida and perhaps German immigrants too. My family traces it's first roots in America to Dickson, North Dakota. I am not sure how popular that name is in the Dakotas anymore. The name Ida seems to have a certain antiquated air about it in this day and age. I found out it means "industriousness" which certainly would be apt when describing my grandmother's sister. She was a fine woman." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jan 11, 2007: "My name is Ida. My nieghbor used to sing to me as a child Ida sweet as apple cida. Ida Lupino a famouse movie star. Female of the hindu energy that goes up the spine. Ofcourse Idaho. The word "Ho"Ebonically refers to a permiscuos woman. I don't like that reference." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Nov 01, 2006: "That's my mommy's name! It's old fashioned...but pretty easy" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jan 27, 2006: "My name is Ida, and the only thing about it is I get called Idaho a lot. I like it nonetheless, but it's unique." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jan 18, 2006: "well.. in malaysia they always calls me E-da. its kinda annoying to tell the truth. other than that, because of my name, people always thinks i am a malay" (Report as inappropriate)
