Comment left Oct 10, 2009: "My name is Fatima (Fa-Te-Ma)
I was named after my beloved late grandmother... I used to hate my name...
but now I love it so much
Fatima means 'The Strong Woman' and it reminds me of all the things I want to live up to, as a strong woman =)
My nicknames include: Tia, Toumi, Fattoom, Tima, and TamTam" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Sep 08, 2009: "My names Fatima pronounced Fateema, didnt like my name growing up (thought it was a sad polynesian name) but one day when i was about 11 a teacher asked me if I was muslim. I thought this was strange as I am a Polynesian girl born and raised in New Zealand as a christian. As ignorant as I was about my name, only told that it was a catholic name. I finally found out that there are many places and religions in the world that uses this name. I think its awesome that I have the same name as someone say in India, Africa, Mexico or Spain makes it exotic and not boring!!! And yip on occasion got the fat-tima joke...so what..stuff the haters lmao" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Feb 17, 2009: "It is a beautiful name, and anyone who thinks it adds to the growing "obesity" rate, is crazy. How can a mean nickname have anything to do with that??
Use your common sense. If you are ALREADY fat, try to stay healthy, and don't mind the mean names.
I mean have you such low self-esteem that a nickname bothers you that much?? Good grief." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Feb 15, 2009: "It's my name, and the best name. Ever. I've never really had fat jokes b/c I'm thin, but I do go by "Fatty" or "Fat" or other such variations. This is no surprise b/c most names get nicknames anyway. Well, at least I give people nicknames anyway. It's a beautiful name and means "captivating" as well as "stopping to wean/abstain."" Comment left May 19, 2008: "I'm a Fatima, and when I was younger I really didn't like my name...mainly because no one else I knew had it, but also because the only references I ever saw to it were religious.
Now that I'm older, I love my name (which by the way does not mean daughter of the Prophet :P that's a person, not a meaning, and it is not derived from the Latin word for Faith. It's usually translated to mean "weaned/ one who is weaned/ to abstain/ one who abstains".)
Thankfully, I never got any of the "Fat" jokes :)" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Apr 18, 2008: "Fatima is my 2 year old daughter she is very cute and intelligent. When we ask her,"what is your name?"
She very beautifully says NANA as she is too young and cannot speak her name properly. But it sounds very lovely and I like the way she calls her name.I love her n her name n I would never change her name" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Mar 09, 2008: "well it's my name as well and people like it very much where i live 'egypt'.. it is originally arabic means 'she who weans'! lol the dughter of the prophet's name isn't Fatma . it's fatemat-al-zahraa tottaly diferent meaning. but I like my name cos some people think it's exotic and some think its classic or traditional which is nice too. although it is arabic but only a few egyptian women are called fatma nowadays people cal their daughters Sarah, Dina, .. you know modern names. and since fashion repeats itself hehe fatma repeats itself. its gettin cooler now. Farida as well old and means 'unique'. the n ame fatma gives impression of originality and class. also of tenderness and uniquness and femininity. the only down side here is that it may be considered old but stylish at the same time!!" Comment left Jan 20, 2007: "FATIMA IS A COMMON INDIAN (THE COUNTRY) NAME AND IS PRONOUNCED FA' - TUH - MUH BUT WITH THE INSURGENCE OF BIG HEADED POST BABY BOOMERS, MANY NAMES AND WORDS ARE MISPRONOUNCED AND POST BABY BOOMERS PROUDLY BOAST THEY ARE THE INVENTERS OF THESE WORDS AND NAMES. THEIR MISPRONUNCIATIONS HAVE BECOME THE NORM AND EMBARRASINGLY THEY CORRECT THE ONES WITH PROPER PRONUNCIATION AND HAVE EVEN ENTERED OUR DICTIONARIES AS PRIMARY PRONUNCIATIONS. HOW DO YOU PRONOUNCE -lived, AS IN LONG LIVED. BET YOU PRONOUNCED IT WRONG, JUST LIKE FATIMA." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Sep 06, 2006: "People are very familiar with this name,I use Fatim but I dont know the meaning apart from it being the name of the daughter of prophet Muhammed Sww
ive met many others with same name but different spellings such as fatema fatima fathema, fatma, and fatim" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Mar 14, 2006: "My name is Fatima, pronounced 'Fateema'.. and yes, as a child my name was commonly mispronounced, however as this name has become more commonly heard in Canada it is not that hard to pronounce." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Feb 06, 2006: "I'm Mexican, so the name is not as popular there as in The States, which is cool because it makes it sort of exotic. In Mexico people never spell it wrong, but when I travel to English-speaking places some people have difficulty pronouncing it...instead of pronouncing the first syllable stronger (which is the correct way) they pronounce stronger the second. In Spanish it's very easy because there's an "accent" on it, but in English these symbols don't exist so it gets annoying sometimes, hehe....but apart from that I think it's a very beautiful name and I would never change it for any other. I think it has character and yet a particular sweetness..." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Dec 01, 2005: "Let me just tell you one thing, it'd be nicer if I was skinny growing up, I got made fun of a lot. :( FAT-ima" (Report as inappropriate)
