I was at teased at school when the George Michael song came out and also when the band Faith No More were popular and so hated it until I reached my 20's when I began like it. I would still rather call my kids something more common so they aren't teased, but I guess kids will always tease other kids about their name. Comment left Oct 08, 2007: "I am a 'Faith.' As a child, I was the only Faith I knew. Never even met one until I was 16, in the late '70's. When I was in 2nd grade, and we used to say the Pledge of Allegiance, there is a line that says "I love thy name (America)". I used to say under my breath: "I hate my name." That is, until the teacher caught me, and talked to me after class. She helped me recognize that my name was unique, and that I should appreciate how special I must be to have my name.
As an adult, I have met only a handful of other Faith's. Whenever I hear of or meet one, I am instantly, inexplicably jealous. Meeting a Hope or Charity inspires a completely different, and positive esponse.
One of my pet peeves is when people don't want to get my name right, and call me "Faye." Like Faye Wray in the original King Kong movie. Not only did I consider her a dumb and helpless blonde even as a child, I simoly hate the name. And if someone insists on irritating me by calling me Faye, I politely give them the "like faith, hope and charity' line from the Bible, or now, I say "like Faith Hill." If they still don't want to say my name correctly (yes, I have had challenges on this by men), I tell them that if they don't want to call me by my correct name, that they can use my surname, Ms. _____, or I simply 'slip' and call them by a completely unrelated name (!).
One downer on having this name is the lack of nicknames. Except for variants on my name, like Fait-ie, I was usually insulted by poor nicknames. At least I never have to worry about having a girlish name that ends in a 'Y' or 'IE.'" (Report as inappropriate)
