She is 3 months old and it is frustrating at first to have it always mispronounced, but I'm sure we'll get used to it! I think only 2 strangers have ever pronounced it right!" My Comment-My 3 mo. old daughter is named Eva pronounced EEva. Everyone I meet says Ava. So I guess you can't win. We named her after my husbands Grandmother" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 19, 2008: "Our daughters name is Eva (pronounced Ay-va)! I love it! She is 3 months old and it is frustrating at first to have it always mispronounced, but I'm sure we'll get used to it! I think only 2 strangers have ever pronounced it right!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 02, 2008: "My name is Eva. I live in Belgium and I have never heard my name pronounced in a wrong way. We just have it pronounced lik Ay-vah. And I lik my name a lot! It's not very common but also not that strange, so it's perfect!" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Feb 28, 2008: "My granddaughter's name is Eva, but it is pronounced Ava, the Spanish pronunciation. I think this is going to be a problem when she gets old enough to go to school! She'll probably just go by "Eva" or change the spelling to Ava." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Feb 08, 2008: "my sisters name is evah but she spells it EVAH...so u dont really get to look up wat her name means unless u spell it wit out the H. lol...but its a beautiful name" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Aug 07, 2007: "I didn't like it as a kid, and a hairdresser even said to me once when I told her my name, "Well, when I'm done with you you won't look like an Eva." What was that supposed to mean? I guess Eva's are supposed to be old ladies. But thank you to those hot Hispanic Eva's in momdeling and acting! My name is enjoying new appreciation as a hot chick's name!" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left May 26, 2007: "I used to hate my name when I was younger. I wanted to be called Joanne! Now I love it. I always get comments about it. people always say what a lovely name, what an unusual name. People pronounce my name correctly almost all of the time but sometimes I get Eve. I would hate my name to become a popular name. It's different but not odd and that makes it a great name. Thanks mum for having good taste." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Feb 21, 2007: "I am Spanish and we pronounce it "eba" because we dont make any difference between b and v. In London, where I lived for 2 years, when I said my name, people used to think my name was Emma and I had to correct everybody. One person even asked about the v thing and told me he didnt believe Spanish people dont have the v sound. He didnt believe me and I am from Spain!!! In USA, people normally get it at the first time and nobody calls me Emma!. When I dont say my name but someone else reads it, they call me "Eeva", and I dont mind. In fact, it is easier for them. I love my name, I will never thank my mother enough. :)" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jan 02, 2007: "I named my older daughter Eva in 2003, having loved the name for years. "Eeva", "Ayva", and "Ehva" are all fine ways to prounce the name. We use something closer to "Aava" (the "a" sound is drawn out") which would be proper in Hungary." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Dec 31, 2006: "i love being named Eva!(pronounced eeva) i struggled for a while when people called me ava. but now i am used to it. i love my name!! and as a plus it means "raidiant goddess or heroine!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Nov 01, 2006: "My grandmother name is Mrs. Eva Walker, and she means so much to me." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Oct 02, 2006: "i named my baby eva...and just to correct a previous comment, there is no wrond pronounciation on names... she is eva with a short e...its short for evalyn and it wasy late greatgrandmother's name...i think its really pretty!" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Aug 09, 2006: "I have a 1 year old daughter named Eva, which we pronounce Ava. We spell it like this because she is of Hispanic heritage and in Spanish "E" is pronounced like "A." Those who say that Eva is only pronounced Ee-va are totally wrong as it can go either way. They are both very beautiful names and even though several people pronounce her name wrong I don't regret naming (spelling her name like that) her that for one second!!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jun 25, 2006: "Just named my baby Eva - pronounced eeva - it's a beautiful sounding name. Classic yet not out of fashion." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left May 16, 2006: "Eva is my name and has been for 94 years. May have had some other incarnations as this name in the far distant past. i like it because it is multicultural and agrees with my vibrations. Numerology 2-4-6 (base 10) b-4-4 (Base 12) Intuition combined with practicality. i have had four other Hebrew Names." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 12, 2006: "My name is Eva. I must admit, I went through a period where I hated it, because no one could ever pronounce it right. I have a teacher whom has had me for two years and still calls me "Ava", I pronounce my name "Eeva," but I have heard other pronounciations. I've never personally met another named Eva, but I have met a couple named Ava." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 08, 2006: "well am making my confirmation and i decided on the irish name aoife but when i begun reserching i foun out that it meant eva so many people begun calling me eva" (Report as inappropriate)
