  • Comment left Nov 03, 2009: "This is my name! Never met anyone with the same one apart from the family member i was named after! I'm still deciding weather I like it or not . x" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Oct 26, 2009: "My name is also Delia. I pronounce it like "Celia". I love my name, because i was named after my great grandmother Bridget, who was nicknamed Delia. I've never met anyone my own age (16) with the same name, but two of my friends have very young cousins named Delia. I always get compliments on my name, and I hate it when people call me "Delilah"." Comment left Oct 01, 2009: "My name is Delia and I absolutely love it. I will say that years ago in school I felt strange because very few pronounced it correctly. My name is Delia Eileen, and I love couldn't be happier with any other name." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Sep 30, 2009: "love the name. it's my daughters name, Delia LeeAnn she is 6. we pronounce it DEEL-YA." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Sep 07, 2009: "My name is Delia and I really don't like the name. I have shortened it to De and I am still the strong person that is described in it's meaning. Only my father called me Delia and then my middle name and I knew for sure I was in deep crap" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Aug 06, 2009: "My name is delia and i love it!! i think it is soo pretty. i like it even better when you say it with my middle name " delia rose"" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jul 24, 2009: "All my Irish family members with the name Delia pronounce it (DEEL-ya). The Mexicans call it Delia. It's the accent thing. Delia is a nickname for Bridget in Ireland. Also the name Bedelia is related to Delia and Bridget. Irish Kathleen" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Apr 16, 2009: "My grandmother was named Delia. It's was pronounced like Celia. She was born in Ireland." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Apr 16, 2009: "I used to hate my name, but I like it now. I pronounce it Dee-lee-ah in English, and Dey-lee-ah in German. I hate it when people call me Deh-lia with a short 'E' like someone said above. Or Delilah. I don't mind the name Delilah, but it's not mine, so people should stop thinking that I'll respond to it. I learned that it meant "to be seen", but I much prefer the Greek origin, the island of Delos, birthplace of Artemis an Apollo. I was pleased to hear this version, Artemis is probably my favourite goddess in mythology. I have more in connection to her than I previously thought. I'm the only Delia I know personally, but I know a Delyah, even though she was named after me. She's almost precisely a year younger than me, which makes her 13 right now. It's constantly misspelled and mispronounced and I have to repeat myself a few times, because people often hear "Julia" and "Celia". People tend to call me Delilah because they find it hilarious. One thing I don't like about my name is that it can't be shortened, like "Elizabeth" to "Liz". And I can't stand it when people call me "Deelz". I can live with Delly, however. Sorry for the ridiculously long comment" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Mar 03, 2009: "love it! my daughter is delia kate. the celtic origin means strong." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Mar 01, 2009: "My name is Delia. I've always pronounced it "del-ee-ah" in grade school. In college, most of my friends pronounced it in Spanish, like my family does. I hate it when people say it "deal-ya" or call me delilah. There's only one L. Either way I love the origniality!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Dec 19, 2008: "My name is Delia, I pronounce it in the Spanish form of (DEH-LEE-AH). Used to hate it, now I love it." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Oct 22, 2008: "I am reading V.C. Andrew's Book..."Delia's Crossing"...and I think it's a beautiful name, although I've never heard it before. I just was wondering about the correct pronunciation of it, if you came from Mexico, like in the book, the character came from Mexico. Lovely name! Diana Lynn Beder Greenfield, Wisconsin" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Oct 10, 2008: "I'm Delia Rose. I was named after my great, great, great Aunt Delia who's name was actually Bridget. I love having an uncommon name. I get compliments on it all the time!" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Sep 19, 2008: "my name is delia i love the name and people allways say how lovely my name is" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jun 27, 2008: "My grandaughter is named Delia after her g-g-g grandmother. Granny always was called DE Lee and that is what we call our Delia unless she does something wrong then it is prononced correctly. My Granny was a Cherokee Indian born in 1888 so we know this name is very old. Untill my daughter named our little Delia we had never heard of anyone else with that name." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left May 29, 2008: "My name is DELIAH. im born in 1992... im 16. obviously lol. umm, my great great grandmothers name was Deliah. and my grandmothers middle name was Rose so my middle is Rose too. lol" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jan 30, 2008: "This is my daughter's name also (born 1996). We also pronounce it like "Celia" and "Amelia" not with the short "e" sound. I don't see how pronouncing it this way is wrong or in anyway confusing our kids. I have met women in their 80's with the same name and pronounce it the same way. I have had the same issues with her being called Delilah, however I have only had 2 people pronounce it with the short "e". One of those was from Cuba and the other from Canada. I don't know if there is a connection...but the majority rules in our life with it rhyming with Celia and Amelia!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jan 26, 2008: "First off, the name is beautiful, but you all have it wrong.. the name is pronounced with a short "e" ... as in DElia- DElta ... its common sense.. a "bee" would not be pronounced with an elongated "e" if it were not for the double "e" for example a "bed" is a short "e" not a long "ee" as that would end up in "beed" which ends up sounding like a bead! it is not an uncommon name, it is derived from europe... hence, many people know of it, and of its proper prononciation... if you want it to have an elongated "e" then on the birth certificate.. put a double "e" ... Don't confuse your kids more than they need to be!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jan 06, 2008: "I named my daughter Delia Joy in 1992. I was about 8 months pregnant with her when I learned of the name, and it seemed like Delia was telling me that was her name. Most people confuse it with Delilah and pronounce it similar to that, but once they know it, they don't forget it. We pronounce it as if it rhymes with Celia. A lot of the time it comes out "Deelya". We're in the south. She's a stunning 15 year old girl now. She's the only Delia we know personally, and everyone loves her name." (Report as inappropriate)
