Comment left May 25, 2009: "Hi...I'm Colleen...I'm 29 and I've always really liked it...especially that it is unique. I work at an irish pub...go figure...and some people will even question that I'm making it up or that they make me tell people that its my name....ahhh...no people..you can call my mom if you want to!!! But I do love it and now that I live in the south I've become accustomed to the Coal-leen....which drives me nuts. And some of the irish guys at work have recently told me about the irish spelling...Cailin (with the lil 'fada' or accent over the 2nd I) which I thought was pretty cool...pronounced the correct way though (Colleen)...and I've also been told that no one in ireland is actually named Colleen...but I don't care...I still love it...thanks mom!!! <3" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Dec 09, 2008: "I like my name, Colleen. I'm 29 and until recently never met another. I was born is California and my mother always pronounced my name Coalleen, but when I moved to Louisiana it became Calleen. I don't really mind either and frankly hardly notice anymore who calls me what. It is a very classic, timeless name." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Sep 16, 2008: "I don't really like my name Colleen but thats maybe because im still young hmmmm.." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jul 21, 2008: "I'm 29 and have grown to like my name Colleen. I didn't like having a unique name when I was young but now I do. I also hate the pronounciation Coal-leen. Yuck!" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Feb 21, 2008: "I love my name! i know of two other Colleen near me..which is nice because i dont mind not having a common name, one reason is because i know many lauren's and ashley's, which are really common around my hometown. One other Colleen i know she pronounces it as cOlleen but my friends and family call me cAlleen.. i think its because of our maryland accents...i dont mind it." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jan 19, 2008: "I'm a 30 year old African-American female named Colleen, its also my mother's name. I like it, I've always felt unique. I live in TN and most people pronounce it 'Coal-leen',which I hate too. One time my mother corrected a woman who called her 'Coal-leen' and the woman told my mom she was mispronouncing her own name. Can you imagine that! What's really interesting is because I'm black, alot of people don't think the name fits my color. I've actually been in public places like a doctor's office and had my name called and when I stand up the person says, "Oh YOUR Colleen."" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Dec 06, 2007: "This is my moms name, she doesn't like the meaning but the name its self is ok. However she (and everyone else in our family) pronounces it, as someone previously said, "coal-leen" and it bothers us when people say "call-leen"." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jun 22, 2007: "I used to dislike that my parents named me Colleen because I resented the American-Irish mentality, especially since it simply means "girl." I was also born in '80 when the name was on the decline, but it beats many of the alternatives of the time. But, I've grown to like it, especially because it's not unheard of nor is it common. It's works as a child's name and as adult's...I don't know if I'd go as far to say it's classy but it is quite simply, pretty and timeless." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left May 18, 2007: "I am 38 and have grown to love this name. I didn't think much about it either way growing up, but as noted repeatedly, it is not common, which is nice. It is unique in a classic, feminine way - not because it's weird or invented like so many baby names today. However, I am also a bit irritated by seeing it spelled with one "l" (it's in the dictionary for those who aren't sure), and by hearing it pronounced "coaleen", or worse yet, having it misheard and being called "Pauline" instead." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Apr 26, 2007: "I like my name Colleen, since it isn't too common, although there arenýt really any obvious nicknames, so I end up with random ones like Momo, Bunni, and Pookie (go figure). There is one other girl at my school with the exact same name, and frankly, she's not one to be happy about sharing the name with ^^; (oh, and Gaston from Beauty and the Beast couldn't spell it right after 5 tries >.<)" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Apr 23, 2007: "I am 25 and I use to dislike my name back in high school, but now as a young adult, I love it ... its IRISH and uncommon, thanks Mom :)" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Mar 18, 2007: "I love my name Colleen. But what i hate the most is when persons mispell my name as Coleen(with one l)...I know some Colleen are spelled that way but i hate it so much when my name is spell that way or when persons says Calleen, when it is Colleen..people its a 'o' there." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Feb 05, 2007: "I'm Colleen Ann and I guess I've never really liked my name that much, maybe because it was uncommon. I was named in 1950. But now that I'm 56 I appreciate its uniqueness more. I had a mother-in-law who called me Coal-een for all her life. I got used to it, but hated it." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Oct 24, 2006: "I have always loved my name Colleen. The only problem was last year I went to Scotland/Ireland and people were confused...they wondered why I would be so obviously named 'girl'. Apparenty no one is named that over there, it would be like naming a baby Girl here. Anyways, I still like it nonetheless!" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Sep 12, 2006: "One of my friends name is Colleen And she loves it" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Aug 30, 2006: "I'm 36 and my name is Colleen. I guess my parents were on the peak of the popularity scale at the time I was born, ha ha. I like the name, I haven't met many other Colleens, and it was nice to not have the same name as ten of my friends. I am surprised by how many people misspell it, though, and it also irritates me when people say "Coal-leen"." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Aug 27, 2006: "Colleen is a beautiful name! It dates back to the 5th century in Ireland, it's great to be Irish." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Mar 31, 2006: "My wife's name...it speaks of elegant sexy femeninity! Love Colleen!" (Report as inappropriate)
