It seems to have soared in popularity in the last few years, at least here in Miami. I attribute this to a Spanish-language soap opera which was all the rage down here. As to the pronunciation, I pronounce it Cuh-mih-luh. Just like Camilla (which is Italian). In Italy and in Spain, they are both pronounced Ca-mee-la, but I prefer the Anglicized pronunciation. People usually pronounce it right, but some people don't understand that the "mi" part of camila is pronounced like "me." People call me cami or mila. My old P.E teacher would sing that song Come a Cameleon to me, you know that song...come a come a come a come a come a cameleon..you come and go you come and go etc etc. Ok here's how to pronounce the name : kuh MEE lah .
