  • Comment left Nov 07, 2009: "I'm Barbara and my best friend is also Barbara...it's an okay name...I can think of worse. My friend and myself are both in our 50's." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Oct 25, 2009: "Im called Barbara which i hate! as a result of my hatred for the name ive acquired an array of nicknames..babs babsy barb, babins, bob. I Like the meaning of the name, but the name itself is granny-ish and growing up with sheep noises (BAAARRBAAARRA...lol)following me wherever i went, made me want to curse my parents for their ill-tasted choice! Down with this ugly name , dont subject your baby to the burden of barbara! Nobody under 50 can pull it off anywho!! DOOONT DOOO IT!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Oct 19, 2009: "When I had my daughter (she just turned 50) I went through the bible and found the name Babette which is French for Barbara. I love both! Most of her friends call her Babette but family call her "Babby"" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Oct 13, 2009: "I am a Barbara Jean and I'm 55 years old. I was called Barbie or Bobbie Jean when I was little, Barb while I was in high school and Barbara after that. I like my name and don't think it sounds old-fashioned. I work at a large law firm and think that "Barbara" sounds professional and pretty at the same time. I used to hate "Babs" until some of my dearest friends started calling me that to tease me - now I enjoy being called "Babs" as a term of endearment." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Aug 27, 2009: "My name is Barbara Lois, and I am named after both of my grandmothers. I used to dislike it because it's such an "old" name (I'm 18), but with time it has grown on me. I love the fact that it is so unique and has so many nickname opportunities. A majority of my friends call me Bee, though I went by Barbie until I turned 8 or so." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jul 09, 2009: "hate it. sounds heavy, harsh, old. no good nicknames, either -- at least in English. and changing one's name is weird. I know two people (not barbaras) who have done that, but i still can't get used to their "new" name. I wish so much that i loved my name." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jul 03, 2009: "I am also a Barbara Anne, like my namesake from the Dominican Rep., and I too, live in a Spanish speaking country (Mexico). I have come to terms with Barbara, although I didn't like in my teen years. Anne is something else, they never get it right and pronounce it awfully!!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 12, 2009: "im about to name my first daughter barbara...i love that nobody has that name and i think it sounds sexy and respectful at the same time..." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Apr 08, 2009: "I love my name. I am in my mid forties...but it does bother me that some people think "old" when they hear the name. It is especially beautiful sounding when pronounced by people of spanish or italin descent because the three syllables are pronounced..with a softly rolled "r"..I think it's a strong yet feminine name." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jan 06, 2009: "well my name is Barbara..after my mothers favorite sister...Im Barbara not Barb..sounds like a cow burping..not Barbie..Ive got a real life not a dream life..I do have a dear friend that calls me Beebs..Thats pretty cool w/me....I do like my name 3 letters tossed about to make a gerat name...I share the name of a Saint...yep...We do!!!" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Dec 11, 2008: "my name is Barbara Jean...it's ok. I'm 22 so I feel that it's too old for me. But hey I'd rather have a unique name then be a jenny or kathy....etc." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jul 16, 2008: "I'm a 35-year-old Barbara and I love my name. When I was growing up, I wanted something more trendy, but now I am SO glad I am not a Jenny, Kimberly, or Lindsay. I like how pretty and classic Barbara is. It's also a respectable name to have at the top of a resume. I also like that I am the only Barbara that I know." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jul 15, 2008: "im called barbara and i think the names ok its just the same as any other mame really? Dnt get it." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jun 21, 2008: "My name is Barbara Elaine. I have always loved my name. I don't see it as old fashioned at all. I see it as young and interesting. People just call me Barbara." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left May 19, 2008: "Still sounds a bit dated at the present time, but I think it will make a comeback some day whether one's a Batman fan or not. Barbara Gordon is a librarian in Gotham City by day, but by night she is Batgirl, proving herself to be as athletic as her idol Batman - and Robin the Boy Wonder." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 14, 2008: "I'm Barbara. I was born on my grandfather's birthday. Just don't cacll me Babs." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left May 12, 2008: "Hi. My name is Barbara and when people ask me my name and I tell them, they often repeat, "Margaret?" I then have to say, no not Margaret, Barbara. I never liked my name. It's far too old fashioned and common. I'm hoping it makes a comeback though, because then new life will be breathed into the name and it will become redefined." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left May 09, 2008: "In 'Batman: The Animated Series (aka The Adventures Of Batman And Robin)' and in the 1994 episode "Batgirl Returns", it starts off with Barbara Gordon dreaming that she, as Batgirl, was rescuing Batman from The Joker, The Penguin, and Two-Face and knocking the villains to the ground, until being woken up by Robin the Boy Wonder's other identity Dick Grayson. Though in that episode Barbara was convinced she had given up the 'Batgirl' days, she changed into Batgirl on hearing of the theft of the Jade Cat statue from Gotham Museum and all evidence pointed to Catwoman - yet it turned out the real thief was corrupt businessman Roland Daggett, whom Catwoman had long held a grudge against. So overall, the episode showed Batgirl and Catwoman teaming up to bring Daggett down once and for all." (Report as inappropriate)
