User Comments about the name Barbara

  • Comment left Jul 25, 2008: "I am from the Czech Republic. My name is Barbora. It's fabulous name and it has lots of forms. They call me Barb, Baru, Barka, Bara, Bora, Borka, Barıa, Bary, Baruıka, Barborka, Barunka or Barbie (I hate this one). I think that everyone shoul know at least one lovely girl holding this name. Sorry for my poor English." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jul 25, 2008: "Im a barbara and i love the name! And im 15. Its better than stupid names like amy leah jenny there to common, its just a name so i dnt no y any1 makes fun out of it. I love bein called babs and barbie. X" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jul 16, 2008: "I'm a 35-year-old Barbara and I love my name. When I was growing up, I wanted something more trendy, but now I am SO glad I am not a Jenny, Kimberly, or Lindsay. I like how pretty and classic Barbara is. It's also a respectable name to have at the top of a resume. I also like that I am the only Barbara that I know." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jul 15, 2008: "im called barbara and i think the names ok its just the same as any other mame really? Dnt get it." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jun 21, 2008: "My name is Barbara Elaine. I have always loved my name. I don't see it as old fashioned at all. I see it as young and interesting. People just call me Barbara." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left May 19, 2008: "Still sounds a bit dated at the present time, but I think it will make a comeback some day whether one's a Batman fan or not. Barbara Gordon is a librarian in Gotham City by day, but by night she is Batgirl, proving herself to be as athletic as her idol Batman - and Robin the Boy Wonder." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 14, 2008: "I'm Barbara. I was born on my grandfather's birthday. Just don't cacll me Babs." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left May 12, 2008: "Hi. My name is Barbara and when people ask me my name and I tell them, they often repeat, "Margaret?" I then have to say, no not Margaret, Barbara. I never liked my name. It's far too old fashioned and common. I'm hoping it makes a comeback though, because then new life will be breathed into the name and it will become redefined." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left May 09, 2008: "In 'Batman: The Animated Series (aka The Adventures Of Batman And Robin)' and in the 1994 episode "Batgirl Returns", it starts off with Barbara Gordon dreaming that she, as Batgirl, was rescuing Batman from The Joker, The Penguin, and Two-Face and knocking the villains to the ground, until being woken up by Robin the Boy Wonder's other identity Dick Grayson. Though in that episode Barbara was convinced she had given up the 'Batgirl' days, she changed into Batgirl on hearing of the theft of the Jade Cat statue from Gotham Museum and all evidence pointed to Catwoman - yet it turned out the real thief was corrupt businessman Roland Daggett, whom Catwoman had long held a grudge against. So overall, the episode showed Batgirl and Catwoman teaming up to bring Daggett down once and for all." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 07, 2008: "I LOVE my name, Barbara Jean! I, too, wish it would become popular again. I agree with others who don't like Barb-how about BABS! My brother calls me that, cause he knows it irritates me!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 06, 2008: "I am a Barbara Anne. The fact that I was born in the Dominican Republic makes "stranger" relevant as I am very Northern Eupoean in my phenotype. I am of a blood type that is not found much in either the D.R. or Northern Europe but in India. I am exotic in my approach to life and nomadic in my tastes. I am wild and free and nobody's gofer girl or slave. I find the Sanish pronunciation the most preferable sound of the name and the West Texas version the least preferable. I love West Texas just the same as I love nature everywhere." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left May 05, 2008: "In another one of them Batman stories, if Barbara Gordon was to have just grown old gracefully, without being shot and paralyzed by The Joker, yet still giving up her double life as Batgirl, the Barbara Gordon in old age or nearing there would be seen taking over her father's job as Gotham City's first female police comissioner. In most of the Batman stories, however, we would see the young, dark-haired Barbara Gordon, librarian by day but Batgirl by night (just like Bruce Wayne is businessman by day but Batman by night), while her father would be the grey-haired police commissioner of Gotham City." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 02, 2008: "I was named after my grandfather so I am Barbara Carol. I was Barbie growing up, but I think Barbara is much more appropriate for a 34 year old" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Apr 28, 2008: "Borne by American former First Lady Barbara Bush (not to mention her namesake granddaughter who is one of the twin daughters of the older Barbara's son George W. Bush who is the current president), and by the fictional Barbara Gordon, or Batgirl, in the Batman comic strips. Miss Gordon's days as Batgirl (she is to Batman fans the best-known "Batgirl" and I don't think other Batgirls can compete with her really) come to an end one day when she is shot and paralysed by The Joker, which results in her reinventing herself as The Oracle. She is the daughter (or perhaps niece AKA adopted daughter) of Gotham City's police commissioner James (or Jim) Gordon. Though that Batgirl was great, I'm not really a fan of the name Barbara - perhaps the Swedish and Russian cognates, Barbro and Varvara respectively, may prove good alternatives." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Apr 20, 2008: "I have had the name for 49 years. Barbara Jean. I wish it would come back into popularity as it is a pretty name. I do not like being called Barb at all. My brothers and sisters strangely enough call me Bar and I have always liked hearing it from them. A closeness I share only with them." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Apr 16, 2008: "My name is Barbara Jean and I like it. I hate Barb because i think people are to lazy to say your full name. I would never consider changing my name because my precious Mom,who is now deceased, named me." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Mar 22, 2008: "I love my name. I am 36 and I don't hear it very often. In school I was the only one that had that name. I always feel like an original when I hear it. It does bother me people don't seem to know how to spell it. I go by Barb. I just hate when people call me barbie or babs." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Nov 02, 2007: "i was named Barbara Ann - in 1971 - so, now i'm 36. But, i'm a "young" 36 and i have always felt that my name was old fashioned. Luckily im tall and have blonde hair - so people always say i look like a Barbie Doll....i dont mind it - hey, id rather be seen as pretty like a Barbie than an old fart - so, i guess you can say i make the best of it....." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Aug 29, 2007: "My name is Barbara, i am 22 years old. I hate my name! Its not that i was ever made fun of because of it its just that it sounds like a much older ladies name. I know i will grow old eventually, but noone ever wants to FEEL old! I personaly think the name is horrible. I was named after my mother, who barely took part, or at least a responsible part of raising me and resent the name to this day." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Aug 17, 2007: "I am named Barbara and hate being called Barb (big in the West) or Babs. People tell me my name means "strange." But it really means "stranger;" and I tell them it's short for "barbarian."" (Report as inappropriate)
