Comment left May 17, 2008: "Last popular in the 1900s and sounds fresher today than the nowadays hugely popular Ava. Names usually take FOUR generations to become cool again - at the present time it seems like Tracy, Lisa, and Angela are the "boring" 1970s names while Susan, Linda, Janet, and Carol are the 1950s names which are mentally associated with being "parent" names, and Joyce, Joan, Betty, Eileen, Mavis, and Jean are the 1920s/30s names which "scream old and frumpy". So turning back to the 1900s or even before then would some names of that era sound fresh, new, and interesting again. Okay, there are some names even of THAT era - Gertrude, for instance - which sound rather disgusting, whereas Ada is not much so and, unlike Gertrude, is making a comeback (Hazel and Violet are too). The only problem is that if it continues growing in popularity it may become as popular as Ava is now - but then again, maybe Ada becoming the next "Ava" or "Ashley" may seem as unlikely as Mabel, Hilda, Dorothy, Agnes, Gertrude, and other names not even in the top 1,000 today."
