My parents researched the name because it was not very popular in the United Stated at the time. I spell it AALIYAH and pronounce it R-LE-YAH. My parents chose the Turkish pronunciation, so it is already Europeanized. In Arabic, "AA" makes an "R" sound because there is no "uh" sound in Arabic. The Arabic pronunciation is AL-LE-YAH.
