Comment left Jan 02, 2009: "This is a helpful spelling when people wish for their child to have the name pronounced "X..zay..v..er" or sometimes in quickly spoken english "ig..zay..v..er". The traditional spelling of "Xavier" is pronounced "Ha..v..heir" in the Basque country and in Spain and pronounced "Zay..v..er" in English speaking countries. I feel this is a fantastic spelling of this name because it helps English speakers clearly pronounce the name with the "X" as the parents intended. I have heard people mispronounce that name and say ex-say-vee-ur. In English, the language we are using (Spanish doesn't matter unless you are in a country full of Spanish-speakers), a word with an individual letter said by name, has that letter separated from the rest of the word by a hyphen or by hyphens, as in x-ray and e-mail. So if that mispronunciation actually were correct, the name would be spelled either X-avier or Exavier. Those are NOT names. Do not use them.
