User Comments about the name Xavier

Comment left Aug 04, 2008: "We just named our son Xavier and i love it. It is such a strong but unique name and not too out there. It really annoys me that people say Exavier and that some low class people have taken to actually butchering the name and spelling it with an E in front so people will pronounce it like that. I didnt realise people would even think to say it incorrectly Xylophone, Xerox pronounced zylophone etc so its a bit of pain correcting ignoramuses" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jul 26, 2008: "My husband and I named our son Xavier (pronouced the Arabic way, X-A-VEE-ER) and were promptly "corrected" by my husands snobby brother who told us that it is pronounced as ZA-VEE-ER (latin). I must say it felt good to tell Mr. Know-it-all brother-in-law that he was a short-sighted idiot and he should expand his knowledge regarding the many different pronunciations and meanings of a name. We let our son decide which way he wants his name pronounced, but mostly he is just called "X", "X-Man" "Zavee" or "Zav", he also likes "X-Ray". He loves his name and the fact that it has different pronunciations. He will often meet new people and give them a different pronunciation just because they are all his name and he likes them all." • Comment left Jul 26, 2008: "My son is named Xavier. This name comes from the saint St. Francis Xavier, who was borned in a castle named Xavier. In basc, the language of our country (Basc Country, in Spain) means "the new house". So, the saint was Francisco from the new house. By the way, this castle and its town are located very near to Pamplona, famous city; Hemingway, Sanfermines... Kisses!!!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jul 17, 2008: "Our daughter is expecting son #2, and we're going to see if she uses it since it's an ancestor in my husband's family line. Personally, I love it...it's strong and unique. I wouldn't care HOW anyone pronounces it, since it's only likely to be his middle name anyway. X is a great initial for a middle name. Xavier is used in many countries so of course it'll be pronounced differently. Let it. X marks the spot with ME!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jul 14, 2008: "Thinking of calling my baby Xavier if it turns out to be a boy.... it's a great name, pretty unique (in Australia at least) and I just think it has a great sound to it! Definitely pronouncing it "zay-vier", not "ex-a-vier"." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jun 14, 2008: "I LOVE THE NAME XAVIER! I NAMED MY SON XAVIER. MY HUSBAND'S SIDE OF THE FAMILY SAYS JAVIER WHICH I'M NOT CRAZY ABOUT AND MY SIDE OF THE FAMILY WHICH IS ETHIOPIAN WAS AGAINST THE NAME BECAUSE IN ETHIOPIAN IT MEANS GOD. BUT NOW THEY LOVE IT." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left May 29, 2008: "Someone corrected me long time ago and told me that the X in Xavier was pronounced as if it were a "Z", and I never forgot it." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 20, 2008: "Besides the stereotype that Americans tend to butcher words of any language they come across, perhaps the excuse in this case is the mass marketing campaign in the early ı80s involving a particular gentlemanıs signature that is tattooed on the behind of every authentic Cabbage Patch doll in existence. If you notice, the popularity of this name began to increase a short time after Mr. Robertsı Cabbage Patch dolls were selling off of shelves like there was no tomorrow, especially around the time that the target market began to approach child-bearing age. It could be just a coincidence. Another said trait of Americans is to go with names they recognize and this certainly qualifies because of the Cabbage Patch craze. This stereotypical trait explains not only why they choose the baby names they do, but also why they vote for whom they do. I am considering this for my sonıs name because it is a nice name with a lot of character and is still somewhat unique." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 15, 2008: "I love this name, I named my son Xavier, I wanted to choose a strong name for a strong little individual ... and he has lived up to it ... he is now 3 and the cleverest in his class, and such a vibrant little soul ... and he loves his name to bits .... We are South African and we pronounce it Zav-eeeR" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 09, 2008: "This is my all time favorite name! I already have a son named Xavier i love that name! =]" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Apr 13, 2008: "This is my name and I pronounce it X-a-vee-er. Its spelled Xavier but people still either call me Javier or pronounce it Zavier or Xzayvier. I usually get awesome comments and tons of Compliments. They figure that I am named after the Missionary Saint Francis Xavier or the University or something." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Apr 06, 2008: "We named our son Xavier and love it. My wife is Latina and on that side they all pronounce it as Javier, which is fine by me and warrants no correction. I do get people in the U.S. trying to correct me with my own son's name telling me it is EX-avier. Not. I politely ask them if they make copies on an EX-erox machine, know of the Graak character EX-erxes, or follow the basketball team from EX-avier University....all pronounced Zavier, of course. When they name their son Xavier they can pronounce it however they want. ;)" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jan 13, 2008: "My son is named xavier it does have arabic origin meaning splendid and is popular in the middle east" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Dec 27, 2007: "This has been a difficult name for me. It is more popular now than when i was born, but the English speaking world has traditionally gad trouble pronouncing it and ex-AY-vyuhr just doesn't sound as nice as the French zahv-YAY or the Spanish Hahv-Yair." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Oct 14, 2007: "Someone told me this name was greek and meant powerful one...wow, were they off.Thank you google lol" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Oct 06, 2007: "I REALLY LIKE THE NAME XAVIER BECAUSE IT'S FRENCH 4 SPENDID" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Sep 06, 2007: "This is the name my husband and I have picked for our son- it sounds great, unique & how great a short form could be- X. I love it." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Aug 28, 2007: "This is my, although it is said the french way; Zav- ie - Errr perhaps I'm just odd. lol." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Aug 18, 2007: "My name is Xavier and, as a native English speaker, I have always has trouble with it. When I was named it was not a popular name, but that has gradually changed and people are more familiar with the name now. The English pronunciation of ek-ZAY-vee-yuhr is very harsh to my ear and I usually go simply by 'X'. The Spanish speakers who call me hah-VYAIR, and the French speakers who say zah-VYAY, endear themselves to me easily. Is it any wonder my wife is latina." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jul 16, 2007: "I love the name, only name we could pick and agree on and wouldnt have named my son anything different if i had a chance" (Report as inappropriate)
