User Comments about the name Ulysses
Comment left Mar 21, 2008: "I love the name! I have loved it ever since I was in high school lit and my fantastic teacher read the last few lines of the poem "Ulysses". To strive, To seek, To find And not to yield.
It has always held a tone with me.
I think it is a powerful name and even though it means wrathful it is still good. Wrathful can be interpreted in several ways and means next to nothing without context. Ulysses is a great name." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Mar 19, 2008: "While Ulysses is not a name heard often, I am surprised at how many people (in the U.S.)have never heard of it given the fact that Homer's Odyssey (in which Ulysses is the hero) is required reading for 9th graders, not to mention they had a president and Civil War hero in Ulysses S. Grant, who also happens to be featured on the $50 dollar bill.
Come think of it, I am not so surprised as Americans are notorious for their lack of culture when it comes to Geography and World History, or their own history for that matter.
At any rate, I think this is a cool name, especially if you know its history." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Dec 02, 2007: "My 2nd son is a 3rd generation Ulysses after his father who is named after his father. It is usually mispronounced, but he handles it well. He's only 7 years old, but he owns his name and humbly corrects people.
My mom would always tell me, "Your name is the most important thing about you." His name means wrathful or angry, and I teach him to be angry with injustice and wicked behaviors. Your child's name means whatever you instill in them as their worth to the world. Thank you, Mississippi Mother" (Report as inappropriate)
