I'm a little younger, i was born in 1990. I think my father chose my name from the movie too. It's crazy to think that for the last decade i've been under the impression that this particular name meant rainbow. I definately like pure and faithful a lot better.:) I forgot to mention that i'm a girl. I've never heard of this name being used for a male. I guess we all learn something new every day. Hope you all embrace your name and enjoy life to the fullest! - Nikia AKA ki-ki" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Aug 08, 2009: "Wow...look at all the Nakias...wow. well My name is Nakia, born in 1974. named after the movie as well. I also went to school (Atlanta) with a Nakia from New Orleans when i was in the 7th grade...she said she got her name from the movie as well. I didnt know about the egyptian thing, Ive always thought it was Native American. I like the name now, not always though. I just saw the Nakia Resort & Dive vacation spot in Fiji...lol. Their pool has NAKIA at the bottom, makes we wanna go there. My family is African-American, Irish and Native-American heritage so I thought that validated my name being Native American lol..But wow..I do like the fact that its not a widely known like John and Tim and etc. And I get the misspellings too Nikia, Nokia, Nekia...Nikita (Russian). Well at least I know Im not alone..lol." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jun 15, 2009: "Hola! My name is Nakia, I am female and My mother told me she named me after a lady how had straigh honor roll... but I think that was only to make me believe that I should live up to that name. She was originally going to name me Eden, but my father and his mother didn't like it. So now, My name is Nakia and my middle name is Eden. I hated my name but all I've gotten so far were compliments. I used to think it was Russian and it meant something completely different. But my music teacher who's Russian said that "No, Nakita is Russian" So I went on a hunt to search for the meaning. Being as how much I love Bollywood, I was amused to find out that in Arabic it means faithful and Pure, the same thing in Egyptian and somethind along the lines of a brave warrior in Indian... don't know which language... or maybe that meant it for the movie that you guys were talking about. I've only found out about the movie I think today. Whenever I never paid attention in writing my name, I always wrote my name being Name because of the first to letters, lol! Yeah... I know... odd. I never knew about the Japanese thing or the Greek thing but I think I was too fustrated in not Finding my name written on things, like cups, pens, etc. I really hated being called Nikki, I'm usually called Kia because my family's from Belize. OR my uncle calls me Nikki Nik,lol! And no... no one usually knows how to pronounce it. But I also just go with Na-Kee-Ya. My old peruvian spanish teacher pronounced it Knock-Ya,lol! but whatever. It's been amusing to find only two other people with my name." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jun 02, 2009: "Yeah...Hello Nakia family! As a young girl, I cried about why my mom gave me a name that NOBODY could pronounce. Then I went through a phase where it was just my name. Finally at 16, I learned to appreciate it's beauty and love it's uniqueness! Pronunciation/spelling is ALWAYS a problem, so I've just learned to say it then spell it...lol! But it was kinda fun to watch people struggle with how to pronounce it and then I would just tell them." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 31, 2009: "Hello to all, My name is Nakia as well and I was born in 1975. My parents left it up to my grandmother to name me before I was born. I was going to be named after my grandfather, Benny and was going to me called "Bennie". I guess the spelling with an "ie" was to make the name seem more feminine. Any how, luckily I did not arrive on time and my grandmother enjoyed watching a TV movie by the name "Nakia". She feel in love with the name. Lucky me." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 26, 2009: "Hello to all the Nakia's out there! I'm also a Nakia pronounced (Na-Kee-Ya) and I am female. I was born in 1974 and my mother got the name from the TV guide (it was an old Navajo movie) and I get several great comments of how pretty the name is but people seem to never spell or pronounce it correctly but I am cool with it." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 18, 2009: "I was born in 1984... love my name. I'll meet a nakia every great while, but while living in vegas, i used to meet people from different countries who used to tell me what my name meant. (Indian=standing tall) russian=clean. Egypt=pure & faithful. And i learned a few others by reading above. Atleast it means something good in every language..lol" (Report as inappropriate)

I surely can say that the meaning of our name is so true." (Report as inappropriate)

I like someone else said HATE to be called Nikki! I prefer Kia, like the car as I tell people so they don't think I'm saying Tia. I have always loved my name even with people mispronouncing it so much!" (Report as inappropriate)
