Comment left Sep 27, 2011: "My name is Misael. A lot of my Spanish-speaking friends call me Misa. My non-Spanish speaking friends call me ME-sy-el. At work, most everyone calls me Missle if they can't pronounce my name in Spanish or English. The nickname has stuck and now even those co-workers who can pronounce it also call me Missle, sometimes.
Other ways people have pronounced my name (And which I DO NOT like) are "me-sa-AL", "mih-ZELL", "mih-SALL", and "measle", among many others.
In high school and part of college, I always explained to non-Spanish speakers that my name was pronounced "ME-sy-el." But now that I am entering the workforce I have found myself Anglocizing my name a bit when introducing myself and pronouncing it "MIH-sy-el." But reading other's post here has made me realize that there's nothing wrong with ME-sy-el. This is a lot closer to the Spanish pronunciation of the name, and therefore I will introduce myself this way from now on.
I like that I have a unique name (I have never met anyone in the U.S. with the same name, though I know they're out there). I just don't like that most non-Spanish speakers can't pronounce it, or that there isn't a single correct way to pronounce it in English. It's kind of up to you how you want people to pronounce your name in English, and that can get annoying sometimes. In the end, however, I wouldn't change my name to anything else." I didn't like it at first because everyone really doesn't know how to say it, but when I see him, I couldn't think of a better name. We pronounce it Mee-sy-El. But its different, which I love about it." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jul 21, 2008: "Hi hi! My name is also Misael, but the spelling is different on my birth certificate it's Missael. I'm from Mexico. but i've lived in the States, Germany and Holland and people say my name in different ways. Some friends and people in the States used to call me "missile" or "misel" and it was fine for me. Almost all Europeans say my name in the proper way, especially those of Judeo ancestry. Here in Holland where i live now i went through a very weird experience where this lady called me Miseil" i didn't understand why she couldn't pronunce it right, but later on i found out she was from Iceland and that it was hard for her to say it in the Spanish way. Well i hope i can meet someone with my name in the future and just calle each other Misa". Cheers." (Report as inappropriate)
