Comment left Aug 31, 2009: "my name is mikhail and hardly anyone knows how to spell it when i tell them my name for the first time. i've got spelling such as mikail, mickail.. 0_0... i guess its based on how we pronounce it. in fact, the name is a russian name which would mean michael, meaning he who is close to God. its actually pronounced, in russian as mi-ky-ale. one could even say that the 'h' in the sentence should not be silent and pronounced 'hi'. im seriously contemplating changing the pronounciation as here in Jamaica, the name has gotten quite common especially for those born at the time of mikhail Gorbachev's nobel peace prize for negotiating the end of the cold war." Comment left Apr 05, 2009: "I named my son Mikhail. People spell it wrong- Mikhayl, Mykale. He's only 5 months- I pronounce it different every time I say it just to see what I like best. My grandma calls him Miguel and it kinda irks me a little bit. I thought it meant 'gift from God', guess not! I love it tho!
Mik-kale. Mee kha el. Me-hal." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Feb 05, 2009: "the name has a nice twist to it am hoping my sister will name her baby Mikhail for my sake." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Sep 08, 2008: "My name is Mikhail. I was actually born in Mosocw at the time of Mikhail Gorbachev being the the president. My nationaltiy is indian though. And its true, people have a hard time pronoucning our names Mikhail, spelling it also. I pronounce my name as McKhayal. It sounds good to me, even though i know it should be pronounced as Mee-Khail. Oh well. I love my name. Its rare, i think, lol." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jul 18, 2008: "mine is commonly pronounced by friends mee-kayl or my-kayl (kayl is like kayla without the a)" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jun 05, 2008: "I live in Jamaica, and my son has this name. People often mispronounce it "Mikayle". I think it's a strong name, and my son (5 years) always corrects persons who mispronounces his name - it's Mi - kha - il." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Apr 12, 2008: "My name is Mikhail (I've grown up saying it as Me-kale). I'm ambivalent as to whether I like it or not. No one can ever spell my name right and most of the time I'm called 'Me-kai-yul' by my teachers but everyone else usually calls me Me-kale. Everyone usually comes up with 'Mik' as a nickname eventually." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Sep 03, 2007: "I have this name, and I am glad to have it. I have always found it nice to have a less common name, but it does have the side effect of people often butchering it. In fact, I think technically I mispronounce my own name. I am of Russian and Ukrainian descent, and I pronounce it as in Mik-kyle (with mik as in 'Mikky mouse'). I have heard people say Me-kyle, Mi-kale, and many more.
Famous people with this name include Mikhail Gorbachev (Politician), Mikhail Bakunin (Anarchist), Mikhail Khodorkovsky (Once-billionaire/Yukos owner, now convict), and Mikhail Baryshnikov (Ballet Dancer (and yes, he is a male as well)). There is also the fictional character on the TV show 'Lost' named Mikhail Bakunin, whose name was based off of the real-life Mikhail Bakunin.
I have never met others with the same name, however for such an uncommon name there are many billionaire businessmen with this name, and one major politician." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jul 05, 2007: "This is my daughter's name. She loves it, but sometimes people do pronounce it wrong. Her twin's name is Micah (My-cah), so people pronounce her name My-Kail instead of Ma-Khail or Me-Khail. For the most part people say it correctly. It is a unique name that she loves." Comment left May 30, 2007: "This is my son's name.Bad experiences with this name.People pronounce it wrong all the time like MI'KH'AAEL the islamic way of saying it.Is this wrong?" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Dec 07, 2006: "My son's name is McKhail and is pronounced MICK-KALE. His grandma has trouble spelling it and sometimes his papa calls him My-Kel. But for the most part he is doing okay. It is very differ. Not to many of them and that is what I liked about it." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Sep 09, 2006: "Going to name my son this name, hoping it confuses people I like less popular names." (Report as inappropriate)
