User Comments about the name Michele

  • Comment left Oct 13, 2009: "Michele with one 'L' is simply the wrong way to spell the name. It is a result of dyslexic fathers spelling the name wrong in the births register. The name is correctly spelt with two Ls and and justification for the one L spelling is simply unfounded. Regards, Androo." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Oct 11, 2009: "I'm a girl, and my name is Michele but it's pronouced 'Meh-kay-lee'. It's an Italian boy name, and I live in the US, so no one gets it right. but I still like my name." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Aug 05, 2009: "I am a Michele with one "L". I was born before the Beatles' song "Michelle" - so when I was in Liverpool at the Beatles museum at Albert Dock I told them that Paul McCartney called my mom and asked if he could write a song about me and then McCartney spelled it wrong. They loved the "joke". Our name means "God-like" because it's usually the female form of Michael - named for the Arch Angel. However, the French spell it with two "L"s. To have a french person pronounce our name correctly it requires an "accent grave" which looks like a backwards accent over our first "e" - Miche`le - my computer won't let me put the accent grave directly over my first "e", then the french will pronounce it correctly similar to Mademoiselle. So our name is correctly spelled with two "Ls" if you want the French to say it right. Michele is also a common male's name in Italy. Sometimes in France - Michel or Michele is used for a man. I think that should clear everything up. I love being a Michele with one "L" ! And yes, because of the Beatles there are lots of us now!! My middle name - Elizabeth means "Oath of God" - both unintentional - mom gave me Elizabeth - Dad gave me Michele - and they spelled it wrong. Kathy Lee Gifford's sister that was born in 1955 is also a Michele with one "L" and nicknamed "Mich" like I am." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Feb 04, 2009: "People always try to spell it with two l's until I tell them I have only one. Even then some people don't listen. I love my name the way it is and think of Michelle as a completely different name from my own, even though they are pronounced the same way." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jan 09, 2009: "My Sons called Michele (Italian for Michael) although we spell it Michele we get everybody in England to call him Michael -because people dont say Michele properly in the UK it gets very irritating, it sounds beautiful in Italian." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jul 25, 2008: "This is a French spelling for the female name. This is my name. The French male name is "Michel."" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Apr 24, 2008: "My name is Michele. I was told by a French teacher that the female form of the name is: Michele and the male form is: Michel. I always thought the Michelle's of the world were American. Now, I am not so sure. I am told by French-Canadians, Michelle is also common among francophones. Maybe it's a North American thing to spell it with two LLs. I don't know. I have never heard of it as being Italian before. I looked it up and some baby books say it's also Hebrew. Maybe a variant from the archangel, Michael?" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Apr 08, 2008: "I love my name. Michelle is the French feminine variant of Michael and Michele is the Italian name for Michael. I used to wish I had a different name because I am of Italian heritage and didn't like having a French name but since I found out a couple years ago that my spelling is Italian I love my name. Never had any problems with people mispronuncing my name just have to clarify spelling." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Mar 31, 2008: "I'm a female Michele and be it with one L or 2 LL's, it's still pronounced the same and therefore still bluddy common! :o( I wish there weren't so many Michelle/Michele's altogether...cos it's a nice name that's just gotten to common! The only thing about it being different is that it's irritating when people don't get the spelling right...even when it's right in front of them in emails! Grrr! I also agree with not being able to find my name's spelling on stationery etc. Very unfair!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Feb 06, 2008: "Hi!! My name is Michıle and everyone always spells it with 2 ll's and they pronounce wrong but i like my name!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Dec 26, 2007: "It is the proper way to spell the name for a girl but also in Italian it is for a boy meaning Michael instead. Thanks to the Beatles it became very popular. Americans add another "L"." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Dec 23, 2007: "This is my name and I love it. People often spell it wrong w/ two l's. They also mispronounce it: muh-shell instead of mi or me-shell" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Dec 10, 2007: "its a girl's name, but they always spell it with 2 L, or then think its pronounced michale or mitchel" (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Aug 27, 2007: "This is my name but i am a girl and my mom did not know that spelled with only one l it is the french form of micheal she just thought that she was making my name unique. i have come across many michelle's but never a michele" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Aug 16, 2007: "People call me the One L Michele. Since most people spell it Michelle." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Feb 08, 2007: "I am Michele with one "L" and have found that if I say, "Michele with one L...three is no HELL" in my name. That usually does it to help them remember how to spell my name!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Dec 10, 2006: "I'm female and my name is "Michele with one L". It's funny, because even though it's pronounced the same as "Michelle", I think of it as being a completely different name!! It's neat having a common name with an uncommon spelling, because you can tell which of your friends actually listen to you when you get birthday cards, etc from them :) I don't mind my name, but I prefer my sister's name; it's Hilary. There's just so many names that end with "ele". I do however, find the meaning of the name really special; "Who is like God." There is sooo much meaning behind that statement." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Nov 02, 2006: "Michelle is the the French way to write Michelle. Michele is an Italian man's name...." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Oct 26, 2006: "Because of it's uncommon spelling, as a child, I was never able to find any barettes, bike lisence plates, pencils, notepads etc that had my name spelled right. It was devastating. People always spell my name with two L's, usually they pronounce it right. I haven't met too many other's with it spelled with one L." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Oct 03, 2006: "My name is Michele with one "L" also. No body ever spells it right, so I introduce myself as Michele with "L" and they don't usually forget." (Report as inappropriate)
