and a note for the comment which claimed Malachi is irish for Michael : i am fluent in Irish and can tell you that it is definitely wrong :P the irish for Michael is Mıchıil (pronounced Meehaul). also, the irish for Malachi is Maoilsheachlainn (depending on the dialect it is usually pronounced mwail-hac-linn)

Alot of people when I was pregnant brought up the "Children Of The Corn" movie..that drove me crazy!! I had someone even say "Don't name your kid that!"cause of the movie. Comment left Aug 22, 2007: "I recently had a baby boy and my wife and i named him Malachy. We prefered the pronounciation of Malachi, which from what i have learned is Mal-ak-eye. But prefered the spelling of Malachy, which is supposed to be mal-ak-eee. So his name is Malachy....but apparently wrongly pronounced. Also, there is alot of Irish in our family, mostly her side, so we went with the Irish spelling (malachy) as apposed to Malachi which is hebrew.

There is a freaky story behind the name though. My friends grandmother died before the twins were born, she begged my friends mother to name the boy Michael, but she refused to, then two days after she died the babies were born. Many people commented on the name being from "Children of the Corn" or from the Bible, but actually I just felt that the name has a nice masculine strong feel to it, and is unique.
