  • Comment left Sep 07, 2008: "hamza is a beautiful name. What adds beauty to the name is the fact that anything associated with prophet Muhammad pbuh is blessed by default. Moreover, in Arabic definition, the Hamza character represent a phanominal symbol which has a very strong core principle of Islamic belief and understanding, where everything starts from a point ... Raises itself to certain peak ... Prostrates to that which is nothing but The Truth on it's way back until it reaches it core and then thereafter walks on what is reffered to as "sirat-e-mustakeem"." Comment left Mar 26, 2008: "Hamza actually means "Father of the Arabs". Hamza - Abu Arab Hamza the The Prophet's uncle was "nicknamed" the "Lion of God" because of his prowess in the battlefield. Hamza is NOT a letter in the Arabic Language, Hamza-Alif is... Big Difference! However you pronounce it I don't care just don't make it short and call me Ham because then I'll have to beat you! This Hamza is 100% Red Blooded US Male!" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Mar 09, 2008: "i just had a baby boy and i named him humzah. i love this name becasue form history of the great uncle of the prophey (may the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him and his family)i really wish the uncle hamza could be the roll model my son picks up. secondly im not sure if humza mean the lion of god or was that just the title give to warrior because of his action.either way may allah bless all muslims with all kinds of names all over the world...muslims rock :-)" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jul 23, 2007: "When I found out that I am expecting a boy, I knew from the start I would name him Hamza. I wanted a name that represents my religion, is unique, and easy to pronounce. Many times it is pronounced as "HAMza" by people, but I correct them as well. Few people told me that I should have chosen a different name, but I realize that many people who know the meaning of it, treat my son with such a respect. And I will teach my son to carry the name with respect and pride." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jul 13, 2007: "i love this name SO much! however I strongly believe it should be spelt with a h at the end as well - Hamzah." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left Jul 11, 2007: "my names hamza! alot of muslims now days are called hamza. often it is pronounced wrong.." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jun 29, 2007: "i named my son hamza, some people do pronounce it as amza but the emphasis is on the H. The meaning is lion and bravery." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Jun 18, 2007: "I enjoy my name Hamza because nobody ever has this name. I have only come across less than 10 people with this name in the United States. The majority of the time I met people with this name were at local Islamic Masjids. Through school teachers/students pronounced it either "HAM-za" (which I was quick to correct due to its affiliation with pork), and "HAUM-ZA" (which I did not mind so much). The true pronounciation is "Humm-ZAH". This was the name of the Holy Prophet Muhammad's (May Peace Be Upon Him) Uncle. He was known as the "Lion of God". The famous Hollywood movie of the 1970's entitled 'The Message' will assure you the name is actually very famous. Hamza is also a letter in the Arabic alphabet." (Report as inappropriate)

  • Comment left May 07, 2007: "my name is not hamza but my boyfriends name is he says that the meaning of hamza means tiger or lion" (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left Feb 08, 2007: "My name is Hamza. This name is of Arabic origin. It is a popular name for Muslims of many nationalities because Hamza was a great person in Islamic history. Hamza was an uncle of the Prophet Muhammad (may the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him and his family). Hamza was a great warrior and defender of the Muslims. The name Hamza is very easy to say. It is pronounced just as it is spelled. Poeple often mispronounce it however by reversing the order of the "m" and "z". I frequently hear people mistakenly say "Hazma" instead of Hamza."
