Comment left Jun 18, 2007: "I enjoy my name Hamza because nobody ever has this name. I have only come across less than 10 people with this name in the United States. The majority of the time I met people with this name were at local Islamic Masjids.
Through school teachers/students pronounced it either "HAM-za" (which I was quick to correct due to its affiliation with pork), and "HAUM-ZA" (which I did not mind so much).
The true pronounciation is "Humm-ZAH".
This was the name of the Holy Prophet Muhammad's (May Peace Be Upon Him) Uncle. He was known as the "Lion of God".
The famous Hollywood movie of the 1970's entitled 'The Message' will assure you the name is actually very famous.
