Comment left Jul 04, 2005: "Connie is my name. And I like that it's original I guess, but it's too much of a hassle. I mean, I used to dread the first day of every school year or when we'd have a substitute teacher because on the attendence sheet it was always "Constance" Most of the kids hadn't heard of the name and they'd laugh. Being in elementary school was okay, younger kids didn't really understand I guess. But the first day of sixth grade I remember all the mocking and laughing. I was already vulnerable in a brand new school, and then the whole class erupted with laughter. I started to cry. It was horrible. In high school it was mainly okay. Most of the kids either got used to it and didn't care anymore, but I had also gotten used to the mockery. So when they said something to me I just looked at them and turned back around.
Another time I was at camp and on the bus ride home they had to take attendence to make sure they had everyone. I thought everything would be fine since they only had Connie on the list, not Constance. But when she called my name she pronounced it "Coney" like an ice cream cone. I don't really remember how I reacted to that one, but I know she just laughed off her mistake, barely apologizing.
So I guess over time you just get used to these things, but one thing's for sure, you never forget 'em." (Report as inappropriate)
