User Comments about the name Calvin
Comment left Aug 17, 2009: "Sounds smart and strong yet is still a cute name. We wanted a name that would stand time. Now here's the seemingly cheezie part: we are from the east coast but met in California. We won't live here forever so CAL-vin will always remind us of our young life together!" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jul 12, 2009: "My father was named for Calvin Coolidge, who had been a friend of the family and lived in the same city. Now, 89 years later, my daughter has chosen the name for her son...well, without the Coolidge part. It's a great name." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jul 10, 2009: "I'm going to name my son Calvin. My husband picked it out one night and I fell in love with it! It's perfect for a little boy and also a grown man. Now we're just trying to find a middle name good enough to go with it!" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jun 17, 2009: "This guy in my class at schools name is Calvin. I have the hots for him cuz hes really funny and sweet. (well to me at least... haha) But it's a good name. Consider it." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left May 10, 2009: "My son, who was born in 2001 is Calvin Michael John! I love the name Calvin..of course named after Calvin and Hobbes. NO way I like the nickname Cal though, but no one has even tried, he is known as Calvin, or Calvin-nator!! :) Calvin is such a cute little boy's name, and even fits older gentelman!! THUMBS UP!" Comment left Jan 28, 2009: "Thinking of this name for my son. People tell me it is a southern name (?), but I can't find much of anything to prove that. Reasons I like it: Not common, nickname Cal, sounds kind of innocent and good natured to me, but I have no idea why." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Dec 23, 2008: "My husband's name was Calvin, but we called him Mat. He was the best. Calvin Reed Mathews. I sure do miss him." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Sep 25, 2008: "I THINK MY NAME "CALVIN" IS A STRONG NAME & I LIKE THE IDEA THAT EVERYONE DOESN'T HAVE MY NAME ~ THANKS ~ PARENTS FOR THE NAME !!!" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Aug 01, 2008: "I named my son Calvin after my grandfather. It is a traditional English name that has been passed down for generations (Robert Calvin). I think it's a beautiful, original, traditional but hip name ("Cal"). It suits him, too. It's a cute name now, but it's also a name he can grow with. Some of the names today sound absurd when you think of a grown man walking around with it." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jan 11, 2008: "yeah i get called cal/cow a lot.
its ok i like wearing underwear with my name on it =)" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jan 04, 2008: "i hate the name because my coach calls me cal or cow." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Dec 11, 2007: "My son's name is Calvin and it is a strong name that fits his personality. Easy to identify but not super popular." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Sep 04, 2007: "My parents chose the name "Calvin" for me because they thought it was "unusual" at the time (this is New Zealand in the late 1960s). They didn't have any knowledge of the name's historical and theological significance. As an adult I always have to reassure people that I do not in any way come from a Calvinist background nor do I in any way adhere to Calvinist doctrine. Actually I really despise Calvinism, rejecting it categorically as a rigidly puritanical, misanthropic, racist and even fascist world view. Jean Calvin's legacy is, in my opinion, not worth remembering. DON'T NAME YOUR SONS "CALVIN":

Comment left Jun 13, 2007: "like the short form and long form. Not that common or trendy which is a plus." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left May 31, 2007: "Love it! Might use it for my baby due in Sept. if it's a boy. But people also say they think of the comic "Calvin & Hobbes". I like it b/c of the nickname "Cal"." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left May 04, 2007: "i think its the best boy name ever! its sxy and cute!

Comment left Jan 10, 2007: "I am a very young mom, and people seem surprised when I tell them what I named my new baby boy: "Calvin? You didn't give him a dorky hippy name???" I think it's perfect- not to wierd, but not too common either. There's a little bit of trouble with pronunciation since I live close to the Mexican border, but after saying it a couple of times most spanish-spakers get it alright. ("KAHL-veen? Oh, ok!")" Comment left Nov 20, 2006: "Peeple r dumb eef thay kant speel mi naem. It maeks mi maad!" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Sep 16, 2006: "My sons name is Calvin. Here in the Netherlands People always say and spell it wrong. They say "kAlwin" and spell it "Kelvin".
I saw the name on a card once and I thought it was great. Offcourse there is Calvin Klein and one of the characters in Jennifer's Crusies' book 'Bet me" is Called Calvin.
Now, my son is three years old an I think the name Calvin fits him perfectly...
I still think its a great name and am glad I Gave it to my son..." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jul 11, 2006: "I like this name because of Calvin (Cal) Ripken, the great Baltimore Orioles shortstop, for the hilarity of the comic strip Calvin & Hobbes, for the theologis John Clavin and because of my uncle Calvin, who fought in the unit Big Red 1 in WWI." (Report as inappropriate)
