I had no idea it was in the bible until I told the delivery nurse his name and she said "of from the bible, the guy with Joshua" Sure I said, I looked into after that so I knew the story. I am offended by the guy that called it the worst name ever, that's kind of harsh." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 19, 2008: "Actually a simple look at a Hebrew/English dictionary requires more knowledge than just looking up words. It's helpful to know that there were no vowels in Hebrew so any difference between the two words in ancient Hebrew is only assumed." (Report as inappropriate)

Comment left May 07, 2008: "I named my 2nd son Caleb and my first is Joshua for a specific reason. I am a religious person. Joshua and Caleb were the only ones of that generation to be let into the promised land because they were the only ones who brought back good news to Moses. I love the name both because of the connection and also because it is different." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Apr 20, 2008: "I would name my daughter Caleb if I had one.. It is a beautiful name... means whole hearted... and is fairly gender neutral.
I don't associate it with the old testament and am not religious but it is a strong, clear, beautiful name." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Mar 20, 2008: "My 12 year old son's name is Caleb. Upon telling other people his name when he was little the reaction was...huh? Even people at church acted as if they had never heard the name. He is the only Caleb in his grade at school, but I am hearing the name all the time on little kids. Obviously I love the name, because I gave it to my first born!" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Feb 21, 2008: "Many name books / websites incorrectly list the meaning of CALEB as "Dog". However, a simple look in a Hebrew / English dctionary one will see that "dog" in Hebrew is CELEB, not CALEB. **Note** the first vowel is different.
CALEB is actually a compound word in Hebrew - something that is quite common in ancient Hebrew. Col (Cuf + Lamed) = all or whole. Lev (Lamed + Vet) = heart. Therefore, CALEB (or COLEV as pronounced in Hebrew) actually means "whole hearted"." (Report as inappropriate)

My wife and I are not religious, but are amazed at how many people do not recognize that Caleb was an old testament refrence." (Report as inappropriate)
