  • "My name is Lucia, pronounced Loo-sha and I absolutely love it. I'm from the US and was named after my Italian grandma, that I unfortunately never got to meet so I feel like I always have a piece of her. Teachers on the first day usually say it Loo-see-uh but once I correct them, they never get it wrong again. I pronounce it Loo-sha since I live in the states. When I went to Italy I saw my name everywhere is was so cool since I never see my name in the US. But I love this name and I'm so thankful my family named me it. I have never met another Lucia and every time I met someone new throughout my life they always make a comment like "thats such a beautiful name" or "thats such a cool and unique name". I love being different :)" Nov. 29, 2018: Report as inappropriate

  • "This name occurs in so many cultures, and with so many different pronunciations. None of them can be wrong. When I was younger, I thought my name was prissy, and didn't suit me. Now, I like it. It's nice to have an original name, and the occasional mispronunciation doesn't bother me. It also has a lot of nice nicknames: mine are Lulu, Lucy, Luchi, Luchia, Luch, or just Lu. I think nicknames mean that you are loved, so it's good to have a name that lends itself to many nicknames." Mar. 27, 2009: Report as inappropriate

It easily sounds ugly if you say the name in an impatient tone, LOOT-zia! Anyhow, she must not have liked Lucia, as by the time she was a teenager she went by her middle name Mira. Whcich she pronounced almost like Mead-a. (That 'r' was tricky for her an her family.) We'd always thought her first name was Mira but found on her records after her death that it was really Lucia Mira plus a slew of other names. See Mira." Mar. 24, 2014: Report as inappropriate

  • "I am named Lucia and am Hispanic so it is pronounced lu-see-ah. Everyone mistakes me for Italian and of course people will say Lu-chee-ah. Others say Loo-sha. I am called all by my family depending on the mood. It's one of the things I love about my name, except when people mistake it for Lucille. Besides that, I love my name, and it is uncommon. It means bright light in Latin and to some people that reminds them of Lucifer but there was a Saint Lucia so it has nothing to do with that. I was named after the girl who saw the aparition of the Virgin Mary in Fatima with her cousins. (I'm Catholic)." May. 23, 2007: Report as inappropriate
